Job description

Job Summary:
This position provides a full range of school psychological services to students in PK-12th grade. Their duties include providing direct support and interventions to students as well as consulting with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals to improve support strategies.
Job Duties:
  • Screens and evaluates referred children including selecting appropriate instruments, administering standardized and functional tests, observations, and writing reports which state the evaluation findings and student's functional levels for the purpose of providing educational program recommendations and special education eligibility
  • Participates as a member of the evaluation team and the individualized education program (IEP) team contributing evaluation findings for the purpose of collaborating on the child's educational plan
  • Assist other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
  • Communicates with students and/or parents and teachers and/or other personnel for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts
  • Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations
  • Provides collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting basic education staff with suggestions and implementation of RTI, pre-referral intervention strategies, and providing recommendations and modifications for the purpose of assisting basic education staff in working with special education students in the classroom setting
  • Coordinates with community agencies including medical, judicial, social service and mental health services for the purpose of determining appropriate treatments, etc. to meet the needs of specific students
  • Consult with students, parents and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success in school
  • Facilitates meetings, processes, etc. for the purpose of meeting curriculum guidelines and/or achieving state mandates
  • Implements school wide program development and program evaluation (e.g. crisis intervention services, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring effective programs to assist children who experience physical, mental, social or emotional difficulties
  • Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, internal audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information
  • Coordinate and lead weekly building special education team meetings
  • Research resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals
  • Maintains accurate records of inventory for the purpose of compliance with state reporting

Qualifications:
  • Washington State or National (NCSP) Certification as School Psychologist
  • Successful school teaching, counseling, or school psychology experience is desirable
  • Intensive course work in educational guidance, educational testing and measurement, counseling, and psychology of learning
  • Successful experience in special education case management is desirable
  • Demonstrates interpersonal relations, communications and problem solving skills
  • Leadership qualities that demonstrate an ability to be innovative, as well as maintain responsible and trusting relationships
  • Deals with obstacles, deadlines and constraints positively
  • Demonstrates ability to adjust to and use new approaches in the performance of his/her duties
  • Seeks and takes advantage of opportunities for professional growth
  • Promotes good staff morale and works collaboratively with fellow staff
  • Maintain regular and punctuall attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Working Conditions:
  • Ability to promote collaboration and communicate in stressful situations
  • May be required to attend meetings and activities beyond regular work hours
  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Ability to regularly walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and occasionally sprint at a rapid speed in pursuit of a student, the duties require significant listening, speaking, writing, and typing, ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
