Requirements / Qualifications

THE POSITION: The School Health Medical Biller is responsible for managing the end to end claim submission and follow up process for local educational agencies (LEAs); works in partnership with Managed Care Plans, the Department of Health Care Services, government agencies, and educational agencies for the sustainability of School Health programs. This will include claims editing, coding, billing/claims submission, follow up with Insurance, and adjustment of claims. The biller may be assigned LEA Billing Options Program (BOP), Multi Payor School Linked Fee Schedule and/or other billing programs. This job reports to the Assigned Administrator.

LOCATION: 313 W. Winton Ave. Hayward, CA 94544

TYPICAL DUTIES: Review service details and edit claims as required due to billing errors. Follow up with providers at schools for additional information needed for resubmission. Provide clarification on billing practices and service documentation requirements based on payor processing of claims. Verify eligibility of patients through provider portal or by calling Insurance. Update claims with accurate medical codes and ensure high coding accuracy of CPT and ICD codes. Maintain patient records and ensure accurate processing of records. Monitor volumes and ensure timely processing of claims for all school-based providers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma required. Associate’s degree in physician and behavioral health billing and coding or related field preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of billing experience is required, experience in Medi-Cal and Commercial Billing preferred. Experience of working both pre-billing and post billing activities required. Experience with billing in a school setting is preferred.
Equivalency: Any combination of education, training, and job-related experience equivalent to the above qualifications.
