What You'll Do
As a Sales Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and success of Fairwinds by identifying, pursuing, and winning new business opportunities within the US Government for communications, networking, and information technology solutions. You will assist the sales team with strategic opportunities, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop winning strategies. These are often complex efforts with challenging technical solutions and use a variety of contracting types to include Firm-Fixed Price and Cost Plus. You will also use your organizational skills to help maintain the sales forecast and help drive the customer contact plan. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully working high-value projects in the government communications domain. You should be a highly motivated, results-driven individual with exceptional technical abilities and effective communication and analytical skills.
The day-to-day
- Provide engineering support to the Sales team that focuses mostly on Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Foreign Military Sales, and Department of Homeland Security requirements.
- Observe and analyze the market to identify potential customers, competitors, and industry trends to inform sales strategies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with US government and Prime Contractor customers to understand their needs and shape solutions that meet their requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Engineering, and Operations to develop compelling and competitive solutions.
- Ensure that all sales content is aligned with customer needs, Request for Proposal requirements, and company capabilities.
- Assist the proposal team to deliver high-quality, compliant, and timely technical proposal submissions.
- Lead and participate in sales reviews, providing regular updates to senior management on the status of opportunities and potential risks.
- Monitor and assess the competitive landscape, tracking competitor activities and adjusting sales strategies accordingly.
- Work with management to generate and maintain the sales bookings forecast.
- Assist the sales team with planning customer contacts to optimize information gathering and opportunity influencing.
What You'll Need- Requirements-
- Bachelors of Science degree
- Masters in Engineering (Preferred)
- 10+ years of military or government experience in engineering or acquisition roles (preferably both).
- 10+ years experience in System of Systems Communications Engineering.
- 10+ years experience with Wireless Communication Systems.
- Deep understanding of RF Propagation Theory and Satellite Communications.
- Understanding of the US government acquisition process.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts clearly and persuasively.
- Experience writing Technical White Papers.
- Ability to not shy away from technical challenges.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising on quality.
- Attitude of how it can be done, not how it cannot be done.
- US Citizen
- Active Secret or higher DoD Security Clearance.
- Ability to work independently.
- A willingness to travel as needed to meet with customers and end users.
What Will Help You On The Job-
- Technical knowledge and experience in transmission of any kind (ie radio, satcom, 5G) along with networks (baseband, server, etc).
- Familiarity with the communications market, including key players, customer needs, and emerging trends.
- Navy or Air Force experience
- Relevant experience with N/A/G/J 2/3/6 staffs that oversee C4ISR government programs and interaction with engineering components (Navy NAVSEA/NAVAIR, NIWC-PAC/LANT, ONR or Air Force ACC, AFLCMC, AFRL).
- Understanding of relevant US government agencies and their procurement processes.
- Existing relationships with US government and Prime Contractor customers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
- Ideal work location in the Washington DC surrounding area (but open to other remote locations).
Compensation- Salary
At Fairwinds, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
Location-
This position is Hybrid with Travel in the DMV area to our APG Office up to 2x a week. This position is open to Remote with Travel to local Naval Systems Command Bases in SC/ VA/ MD.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full time, exempt position.
