SALARY: $115,752 - $154,440 PER YEAR

This position works from the Sedalia branch of CORE Electric Cooperative. This position does not work remotely.

CORE employees are required to work in a safe manner in accordance with regulatory standards and requirements.

This position reports to the Safety and Health Director. The Safety Manager is responsible for continuously monitoring and adapting safety procedures and work practices to ensure an environment of continuous improvement for all employees. This position will have responsibility for the coordination of programs related to CORE's field, vehicle, and office safety and compliance activities.

Minimum Qualifications of Position: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Occupational Health and Safety or related field (work experience may substitute for education) CUSP or CLCP certifications are preferred. 5 years of experience within utilities, energy, or corporate health and safety teams. 5 years of experience managing teams, including coaching and development, day-to-day supervision, goal and expectation setting, and leading team meetings across the organization.

Knowledge and Skills: Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Clear team focus with interest in building strong relationships. Strong attention to detail, ethical conduct, and discretion with sensitive employee information, such as medical records, driving records, and disciplinary actions.

Job Duties Include:Safety Policy: Develop, revise, and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Identify rules and regulations concerning acceptable work practices of electrical workers and communicates concerns to the Safety and Health Director. Risk Management: Work closely with field personnel, office personnel and leadership to analyze safety incidents, accidents, and near misses, complete required reporting, compliance, and/or training documentation, and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences. Use incident investigation and mentoring/professional development techniques, including but not limited to: 5Whys, Root Cause Analysis, and Learning Team-Why Tree, etc. Develop programs that encourage employees to identify hazards and report close calls. Maintain an inventory of office safety equipment, such as A.E.D.s, eye wash stations, and first aid supplies. Ensure that all cooperative vehicles and buildings are equipped with the same as required. Partner with Facilities operations to ensure annual life safety building systems' compliance and inspections occur for cooperative facilities (office buildings, substations, communication sites, etc.) Manage and maintain cooperative's database of onsite chemicals, partnering with operations, warehousing, and fleet and facilities teams on regular chemical inventory and management, SDS database management, and oversight of annual disposal of unapproved chemicals, or chemicals no longer in use. Continuous Improvement: Coordinate fleet and facility safety audits and schedule crew observations. Complete site-specific safety audits and assessments, driver assessments and ride-a longs, etc. Observe and document contractor safety practices and procedures to verify compliance with Cooperative, local, and national safety standards and practices. Document observations in writing and provides reports to the Safety and Health Director. Use data from audits, incidents, and employee feedback to create programs of work that support the process of continuous improvement. Analyze observation data to identify trends and training requirements. Research, suggest, and implement behavioral based safety and observation best practices. Implement programs that create departmental ownership of safety. Collaborate with other utilities, attend conferences, seminars, and other training opportunities to stay continually aware and knowledgeable of industry changes. Monitor and report on the effectiveness of existing work practices and safety procedures and recommends improvements. Develop and track key safety metrics and KPIs, including those highlighted in organizational, divisional, and team scorecards. Partner with leaders in the organization to implement and track safety scorecard measures specific to the team's role and day-to-day responsibilities. Safety Promotion: Develop and implement programs that reward safe behaviors. Work with the Safety and Health Director to develop and manage the safety budget, including resource allocation and procurement of safety equipment. Assist with safety demonstrations to the members of the Cooperative. Develop and implement special projects as assigned by the Safety and Health Director. Participate in and/or provide support for various committees or task forces as requested. Identify, develop, and implement all necessary training based on regulatory requirements, as well as industry safety standards, for each role / job task held by CORE Electric Cooperative employees. Implement measures to promote awareness by conducting workshops, utilizing internal communication platforms, and conducting emergency preparedness drills. Administration: Mentor and direct safety staff in day-to-day activities and best practices. Assess, track and advocate for safety staff skillset development and training needs. Provide regular performance assessments and professional development guidance to direct reports. Assist with the recruiting, interviewing, hiring and subsequent training of new team members. Manage health and safety support vendors as required, including invoice review and approval, RFI/RFP oversight and bid review/approval, etc. Assist with creating and managing the overall Health and Safety department budget, including seeking vendor quotes, reporting on actuals and budget variances, etc. Supervisory Responsibilities: Plan, organize, train, coach, direct, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; establish performance requirements and personal development targets; monitor performance and provide coaching for performance improvement and development.
