Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation's leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.
Improving the health of animals, people, and the planet has been central to our land-grant mission since 1883, when the first veterinary classes began at Colorado Agricultural College. Today, that vision remains at the heart of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, where we empower the next generation of leaders to change the world.
The Veterinary Health System transforms our service units into a comprehensive veterinary medical center governed by responsible management that supports our units' individual missions. Capitalizing on Colorado State University's top ranking in veterinary medicine, and building on our tradition of providing high-quality compassionate care and achieving outstanding clinical outcomes, the Veterinary Health System broadens our expertise and skill to deliver the highest levels of customer service, employee satisfaction, and advancements in medicine through clinical service, research, and innovation.
Position Summary
The Facilities Safety and Security Manager will coordinate, oversee and act as the main contact point for facilities operations and maintenance, safety, security, and custodial needs and activities for the buildings and infrastructures of the Veterinary Health and Education Complex (VHEC). The VHEC consists of those buildings and infrastructure located on CSU's south campus which operate under the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS). This is roughly defined as the area in Fort Collins confined between Cross Drive on the north, Drake Road on the South, Gillette Drive on the west, and Bay Road on the east. This position works for the Veterinary Health System (VHS) which oversees veterinary service operations for CVMBS.
Significant inter-relational work is required to successfully address the needs of the VHEC leaders and VHS leadership, and to coordinate and execute activities with key partners including CSU Facilities Management, the Tetrad Property Group (TPG), the CSU Police Department, the CVMBS Director of Facilities Safety and Security, CSU Environmental Health and Risk Management, and the individual proctors assigned to each building. Specific areas of oversight will include interior and exterior building structures, landscape, fixtures, non-programmatic equipment (such as HVAC and other building mechanicals), and custodial functions for public, administrative, animal care, and program operational areas. However, direct responsibility for specific areas is variable. For example, CSU Facilities and/or Tetrad provides the direct O&M and custodial needs for the public and administrative areas, and grounds and landscape. Direct responsibilities for this position are primarily for non-public or administrative (i.e., bio-sensitive animal care) area custodial needs, minor or routine O&M needs, and overall coordination with the key partners, leadership, and other personnel.
The prime objective of this role is to ensure and execute superior customer service as a priority in helping faculty and staff achieve their goals and outcomes, and the ultimate delivery of service excellence to our clients, students, and other constituents.
