Job Summary Under the direction of the Bureau Chief of Maintenance for the Department, plans, schedules, coordinates,delegates, and maintains all necessary safety requirements, trainings, and requests for all departmental employees. Serves as a liaison for the Department's Maintenance Bureau with all Department Bureaus, County Departments, and outside agencies for safety procedures, protocols, and personnel safety matters. Provides logistical support in the implementation of emergency operation plans. Assists with onsite compliance safety inspections. Manages the health and safety processes for risk reduction, injury prevention, and safety regulatory compliance of County, local, state and federal regulations. Develops and prepares training programs,
presentations; disseminates safety information to staff utilizing various media platforms; attends conferences; and prepares reports as required for compliance and new employee onboarding. Performs other duties as assigned This position is Actively Recruited and At Will.

 Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Five (5) years' full time work experience managing safety/training programs in Department of Transportation (DOT) and/or Public Works industries is required.  
  • Supervisory experience with the Department of Transportation (DOT) or Public Works safety staff is required.  
  • Professional work experience using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point is required.
  • Must work rotating shifts providing 24/7 coverage as needed including holidays is required.
  • Valid driver's license and current proof of auto insurance is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA certified.

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point.  Knowledge of current industry safety standards and regulations OF TRANSPORTATION/public works.  Knowledge of good office management principles and exercises sound judgement, discretion, and problem-solving abilities for all situations.  Skill disseminating safety information to all necessary staff.  Skills in effectively communicating as a liaison with staff, local and outside agencies.  Skills in participating in virtual and in person meetings.  Skill understanding safety practices and procedures with OSHA standards.  Ability to acquire a thorough knowledge of specialized administrative and processing procedures and regulations particular to the area of an assignment.  Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.  Ability to research from a variety of sources and provide training.  Ability to manage multiple projects and large groups of individuals.  Good attention to detail, ability to proof, and edit complex information from documents.  Ability to follow-up in a thorough and timely manner relative to all issues.  Ability to convey information and explain or discuss office policy and procedures with others either in person or virtually.

Physical Requirements

Light Work

Light Work involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job/occupation is rated Light Work when it requires: (1) walking or standing to a significant degree; (2) sitting most of the time while pushing or pulling arm or leg controls; or (3) working at a production rate pace while constantly pushing or pulling materials even though the weight of the materials is negligible.
