About the Evansville State Hospital:

Evansville State Hospital is one of the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospitals who are committed to the mission of Hope and Recovery. Residing on 88 acres on the east side of Evansville, Ind., our facility provides medical treatment for chronic mental illness and substance abuse disorders from our dedicated team of psychiatrists and advanced practice professionals. Active Treatment helps our patients achieve their goals directed towards living in the most non-restrictive environment possible. Our team of professionals assist our patients in the treatment process involving medical staff, nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation therapy and our community integration program. Evansville State Hospital continues to maintain accreditation through The Joint Commission as an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital as well as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services certification as a Psychiatric Medicare/Medicaid Hospital.


Salary:
This position traditionally starts at an annual salry of $71,500.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.


Location:
This position is located in Evansville, IN.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual patient incidents and monitors for trends.
  • Compiles Quality Appropriateness reports to present during Patient Safety Committee.
  • Initiates and completes patient-to-patient and staff-to-patient investigations. Needs to be able to effectively communicate and complete interviews of staff and patients.
  • Actively participates in the following committees: Patient Safety, Utilization Review, Environment of Care, P & T, Medication Safety, Infection Control, and Medical Rapid Response, and serves on Patient Care Monitoring.
  • Pulls data regarding significant patient incidents for Focus Reviews and participates during Focus Reviews, RCAs and FMEAs. Ability to present data in logical format.
  • Assists with policies and procedures regarding safety/risk management program. Coordinates and conducts hospital-wide risk assessments.
  • Provide accurate interpretation of clinical information.
  • Constructively address daily operational issues/problems while maintaining a pro-active broader view of future directions.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple tasks/assignments.
  • Knowledgeable regarding CMS and Joint Commission regulations.
  • Uses technology for charting electronic information

What You'll Need for Success:

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited college.
  • License to practice nursing in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse.
  • Must hold and maintain a CPR.
  • Must stay current with behavioral intervention training.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and ability to learn other programs used in maintaining electronic medical records.
  • Good interpersonal skills, good verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and apply of medical and facility terminology.
  • Ability to use MS Office applications and electronic patient records.
  • Ability to serve as a patient advocate.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret nursing and facility policies and procedures.
  • Additional knowledge and/or ability may be required based on the population the facility will serve such as: children, adolescents, geriatrics, etc.
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
