Summary



King County Metro is seeking two (2) highly motivated individuals to join the Finance & Performance group within Metro’s Contracted Services Section. Positions will be part of a team of 5 Rideshare Services Representatives who manage the accounts of 1000+ vanpools. King County Metro offers a range of ridesharing services, including vanpools and vanshares, catering to commuters seeking alternatives to traditional fixed-route bus service.

As a Rideshare Services Representative (Vanpool Accounting), you’ll manage over 200 vanpool accounts, involving long-term and frequent interactions with vanpool customers. You’ll provide essential support with their monthly reports, fare payments, and resolve other issues that may arise.
This recruitment may be used to generate a pool for future Career Service, Term Limited Temporary (TLT), and Special Duty Assignment (SDA) positions that may occur in this classification. The pool would be valid for twelve months upon creationand may be extended at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Job Duties

As a Rideshare Services Representative, you will:


  • Provide technical assistance and support to vanpool customers in monthly reporting and fare collection. Determine accounting inconsistencies or errors, prepare corrections, and verify accuracy of accounting reconciliations.
  • Perform data entry, financial and accounting work, including managing general ledger account transactions, accounts receivables and payables; prepare documents to meet audit and other financial requirements.
  • Manage the accounts for over 200 vanpool and vanshare groups each month. Directly support volunteer bookkeepers participating in the Commuter Van Program.
  • Act as a liaison for customers and the public, including customer service and operations. Provide program information, handle sensitive and confidential situations, interpret and apply established policies, procedures, and regulations for customers.
  • Train volunteer bookkeepers to collect and report fares, ridership, and complete monthly reports accurately and in compliance with program policies.
  • Manage collections activities; investigate and resolve potential issues of fraud and misuse.
  • Authorize expenditure of funds and reimbursements.
  • Routinely review program guidelines, policies, and processes. Analyze, recommend, and implement changes.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external customers orally and in writing.
  • Respond to and investigate vanpool emergencies, accidents, incidents, and complaints. This includes participating in on-call emergency coverage. On-call duty extends outside of regular office hours, including weekends for approximately one week, four times a year, and equipped with an emergency pager and cell phone for immediate response.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Minimum qualifications include the following:


  • Three years of progressively responsible customer service experience, including managing medium to long-term customer relationships.
  • Three years of experience working with basic accounting principles and the full accounting cycle, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger transactions.
  • Demonstrated experience in data entry with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work including the ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to customers who have limited English proficiency.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to meet ongoing accounting and other project deadlines.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Available for on-call vanpool emergency coverage outside regular office hours, including weekends, several times a year, as noted above.

Desirable Qualifications (not required)
  • Experience using Access or similar relational database software.
  • Experience collecting owed payments from customers.
  • Experience with daily high-volume accounting transactions.
  • Knowledge of Metro Transit Rideshare and/or Vanpool operations.

Work Schedule
The work week is normally 40 hours, Monday through Friday. This position is FLSA non-exempt and, therefore, eligible for overtime.
Work Location
The primary location of the position is at the King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle, WA 98104. However, this will be a hybrid position (teleworking and in office). The work associated with this position will be performed or conducted through a combination of teleworking and onsite work and meetings. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
