Retail Sales Associate

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

We're a small independent business located in Downtown Traverse City. We're looking for an energetic Sales Associate that works well with other staff and customers. We'll educate you on product and sales technique. Being reliable, friendly, outgoing, and paying attention to detail are essential characteristics. It's a fun work environment that can be fast paced at times.

AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Weekend and some holiday availability are required. We are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day, and Easter. We have reduced hours on some additional holidays. Full-time employees must be available for scheduling during the times at which our store is open Mon-Sat 9-6 & Sunday 11-5) Part time employees must have a set schedule of availability (the availability cannot fluctuate from week to week). Exceptions may be made depending on availability of other staff and the approval of a manager. The first Friday in August is a mandatory work day, as it is the Downtown Sidewalk Sale, and our busiest day of the year.

JOB DUTIES

Employees must be able to work as a team and maintain positive attitudes towards each other and customers.
Greet customers and ascertain what each customer wants or needs
Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
Compute sales prices, total purchases, and receive and process cash or credit payment.
Watch for and recognize security risks and thefts, and know how to prevent or handle these situations.
Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandising based on customer needs and desires.
Answer questions regarding the store and it's merchandise.
Describe merchandise and explain use, operation and care to customers.
Ticket, arrange, and display merchandise to promote sales.
Place special orders for customers.
Demonstrate use or operation of merchandise.
Clean shelves, counters, and tables.
Exchange merchandise for customers and accept returns.
Help customers try on or fit merchandise.
Inventory stock and requisition new stock.
Unload packages to receiving area, and check product in.
Keep store clean, including bathroom, and sidewalk areas.
Facilitate warranty returns for defective merchandise.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is ultimately dependent on experience, comprehension, and overall performance. Wage varies based on experience, with opportunity for growth. New employees will be trained to learn about the store, the merchandise, and our procedures. Raises will be given based on employee performance. The best way to demonstrate this is by helping customers with their needs, selling merchandise, and showing the initiative to self-manage by keeping busy with appropriate projects necessary to the function of the store.

Full-time employees will be eligible for paid vacation time and Simple IRA matching employer contributions, after two years of employment.

Staff routinely participates in sales contests which frequently include cash incentives, free footwear, or other similar benefits.

Employees are eligible for a 50% discount after one month of employment.
