SUMMARY//

The Retail Manager at The Front Climbing Club plays an essential role in shaping the gear-buying experience of our members. This position involves a balance of creativity, practicality, and stoke! They are responsible for developing and executing sales strategies that connect with our community of climbers. Their day-to-day tasks include analyzing trends, managing inventory, and crafting captivating shop layouts and merchandising plans.


The Retail Manager works in close partnership with the CEO and the Leadership Team, utilizing the Agile methodology to refine processes and achieve project goals. This is a unique opportunity to merge retail management skills with your love of climbing. PRIMARY AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS//

Strategic Sales Mastery:

  • Works with the Communications and Membership Team to create and implement straightforward yet effective marketing strategies to boost gear shop visibility to our membership.
  • Dive into sales data, forecast trends, and use this insight to keep our sales climbing steadily.
  • Plan and run sales campaigns that resonate with our community.

Inventive Merchandising & Inventory Oversight:

  • Take charge of seasonal purchasing, ensuring our shop is always ready for climbers' needs.
  • Organize the shop layout and merchandising to make product discovery an enjoyable experience.
  • Manage pricing and inventory in a way that's fair and makes sense to our customers.
  • Maintain inventory backstock and keep a close eye on stock levels, ensuring we're never caught short.

Financial Management & Administrative Expertise:

  • Keep track of retail invoices, ensuring everything is accurate and accounted for.
  • Set realistic quarterly sales goals and keep the team informed of progress.
  • Handle the budgeting with a strategic approach, just like planning a climbing expedition.
  • Work closely with our Business Intelligence Team to create retail reports as needed.

Agile Strategy & Process Enhancement:

  • Use Agile methods to adapt and improve our strategies, ensuring we're always moving forward.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain the shop, ensuring it's always welcoming and functional.
  • Collaborate with leaders for continuous improvement in our processes and projects.

Team Development & Skill Development:

  • Educate staff on products, promotions, and inventory management, making them experts in what we sell.
  • Coordinate training sessions and product demos to keep the team knowledgeable and engaged.
  • Lead and support the Retail Assistants and Front Desk Staff in their retail roles.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends in climbing gear and retail strategies.

Collaborative Partnerships & Relationship Building:

  • Forge strong connections with retail representatives and attend key buying appointments.
  • Partner with the Marketing team for designing and ordering staff and gym apparel.
  • Collaborate with the Events Manager for event sponsorships and gear provisions.

REQUIREMENTS//

  • Educational Foundation: A bachelor's degree in business administration is preferred, or bring 4-8 years of solid, relevant experience to the table.
  • Sales Prowess: Demonstrate your talent with a minimum of four years in sales, showing your knack for closing deals and driving success.
  • Customer Service: five years in customer service positions.
  • Climbing Gym Familiarity: Bring at least a year of experience in a climbing gym, showcasing your passion and understanding of the climbing lifestyle.
  • Product Wisdom: Have extensive knowledge about climbing gear, being the go-to expert for both staff and members.
  • Community Insight: Essential experience and knowledge of the climbing community, understanding its pulse and preferences.
  • Multi-Location Oversight: Take charge of our Ogden, Salt Lake, and South Main locations, ensuring excellence across the board.
  • Travel Readiness: Be prepared for regular travel between gyms, staying connected with teams and operations.
  • Time Management Excellence: Ability to manage time effectively, prioritizing tasks with ease and efficiency.
  • Strategic Retail Understanding: Have a robust understanding of leveraging retail strategies to meet and exceed company and membership goals.
  • Communication Artistry: Possess top-notch verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, making every interaction count.
  • Independent Judgement: Able to make astute decisions on their own, confidently guiding the retail operations with a steady hand.
  • Dynamic Energy and Team Spirit: Bring a high-energy, positive approach and thrive in a team environment, inspiring those around you.

Job Hazards


This position is exposed to airborne chalk, dust, and cleaning supplies. Other hazards include falling while providing instruction or demonstration and trips and falls caused by obstacles on the ground such as ropes and climbing gear.
