Non-exempt, MR06POSITION SUMMARYThis position purchases new ongoing and one-time library collections materials for the education and research support of the university’s faculty, students, staff and supporting research fellows. The position is responsible for the acquisition of materials, assignment of funds, resolution of problems, communication with vendors, and collection maintenance related to new purchases and renewals in all formats.The employee holding this position will have responsibilities in the Resource Acquisitions unit within the Acquisitions and Continuing Resources Department. This department provides access to library collection materials that are critical to the teaching, learning and research missions of the university and its multiple sub components.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Purchasing Operator:
- Sources and orders new ongoing and one-time library collections materials for support of the library’s missionPrepares and submits purchase requisitions for approval through the university's purchasing systemReview requisition orders to verify accuracy, terminology, and specifications.Verifies that materials orders have been filled correctlyResolves problems related to purchase options, including vendor selection, quality of materials, acceptable costs, and shipping options to provide effective service and maintain efficient use of the library’s budgetMaintain knowledge of all organizational and governmental rules affecting purchases, and provide information about these rules to organization staff members and to vendorsPurchases library materials in all formats to support collection needs of library patrons and teaching facultyServes as a subject-area procurement expert, gaining and applying knowledge related to the publishers, practices, and unique characteristics of the library procurement process for one subject area of library collection materials
- Tracks, analyzes, evaluates, and supports management of collections resources for compliance, budgeting, and assessmentMonitors the arrival of library collections resources for fulfillment of purchasesMaintains acquisitions information in the Libraries' integrated library system for data accuracy and preservationAssist with decisions on renewal purchases of all formats that impact the libraries budget and collections retentionDetermines whether objects need repair and chooses the safest and most effective method of repair
- Assigns collections funds to purchases to comply with state and endowment requirementsNegotiates price for library resource renewals, under the guidance of the Assessment Programs & Collection Strategy departmentMakes decisions about purchases, returns and order cancellations in accordance with university guidelinesAudits invoices for purchase accuracy and policy compliance

- High School Diploma or GEDTwo years of customer service experienceKnowledge of fund accountingKnowledge of library acquisition processKnowledge of online ordering systemsAbility to communicate effectively with a variety of people, both orally and in writingSkilled in customer serviceSkilled in judgment and decision-making skills including considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate oneAttention to detailAbility to work with diverse audiencesAbility to work independently and as a part of a teamAbility to carry out tasks with minimal supervision and complete work in a timely mannerAbility to learn specialized software
- Bachelor’s degree2 years of experience in a library acquisitions, electronic resources, or serials department2 years of experience in a position requiring strong customer service skillsKnowledge of an Integrated Library System's acquisitions moduleKnowledge of procurement practicesExperience purchasing library collections materials
