Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related field. One (1) year or more of undergraduate research experience. Experience with molecular biology techniques (Cloning, PCR), immunostaining, and/or cell culture.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Lin Cell Dynamics Lab at Stony Brook University is seeking a Research Support Assistant to work on cytoskeletal structure and function in cell migration. We use developmentally migrating Drosophila primordial germ cells (PGCs) as a model system to unravel the molecular basis of amoeboid migration, a poorly characterized form of movement used by cancer cells. The lab employs a diverse set of techniques, including advanced, quantitative live cell imaging, biosensor development, bioengineered assays, and biochemistry. The Research Support Assistant will primarily conduct research under the supervision of the PI and will use super-resolution imaging to characterize actin structure in PGCs. This is an ideal opportunity for recent graduates to garner additional research experience of 2 years before attending graduate or medical school.
The incumbent must be driven, organized, and actively seek new skills. Must be able to work independently. Please see our lab website for additional details on the lab's research- www.lincelldynamicslab.com
Please also see Dr. Lin's website. It can be found on this page: https://www.lincelldynamicslab.com/
Duties:
- Under the direction of the PI, the incumbent will conduct research involving Drosophila genetics, cell purification, immunostaining, and super-resolution imaging.
- Maintain electronic laboratory records, analyze data, and generate written and oral reports of research work performed. Participate in weekly lab meetings.
- Assist with preparation of common lab reagents, receipt of stock, and general organization of laboratory reagents and labware.
- Assist with training incoming Graduate and Undergraduate students in laboratory techniques and regulations.
- Promote a productive and safe working environment in the lab and comply with all Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) regulations.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
