Required Qualifications (as evidenced upon attached resume):
Associate's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Prior laboratory experience. Formal education courses or in-lab experience related to marine, atmospheric, and/or sustainability studies. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Marine, Atmospheric, Sustainability Studies or related field.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Instructional Support Assistant will support Principal Investigator, Dr. Christopher Gobler in the Gobler Laboratory. The incumbent will assist in laboratory and field research focused on coastal aquatic ecosystems, and will be responsible for the following:
- Assist with Phytoplankton identification and enumeration.
- Assist in the extraction of nucleic acids from wastewater samples.
- Assist with RNA extract from wastewater samples.
- Assist with the use of digital PCR to analyze concentrations of microbes in aqueous samples.
- Process and analyze field and experimental samples for nutrients, pigments, etc.
- Write reports and analyze data.
- Conduct general laboratory maintenance.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
Evening and weekend work will be required at times.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,087 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
