The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Research Support Assistant position at the Center of Excellence for Cultural Competence (CECC) at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI). The CECC is a dynamic research center aimed at reducing mental health disparities through service-based, community-based, and implementation research. The CECC works together with the Anxiety Disorders Clinic (ADC) and the Hispanic Treatment Program at NYSPI. The chosen candidate will provide research and administrative support to the Center working under the direction of experienced faculty and staff. This position will report to the CECC Director and Research Coordinator.
The chosen candidate must be able to multitask and be detail- and team-oriented, have excellent time-management, task prioritization and communication skills, the ability to problem-solve and work independently under minimal supervision, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
Duties and Responsibilities:
The research duties of the CECC/ADC Research Support Assistant include:
- Recruit research participants and conduct screenings following research protocols. Assist with data collection
- - phone and in-person interviews, surveys, focus groups as well as blood drawing, assessing vital signs, clinical duties, performing EKGs (training will be provided).
- Conduct data maintenance/entry including scanning research participant records and assist with the transcription of interviews and focus groups.
- Assist with the coding and analysis of quantitative or qualitative data.
- Assist in the preparation of grant applications (e.g., literature searches, biosketches).
- Conduct academic database searches and assist with scientific literature reviews.
- Assist with the preparation of study reports and scientific articles.
- Assist with preparation of presentations, newsletter articles, and videos to communicate research findings.
- Assist in responding to requests by the Office of Mental Health for information, reports, presentations, and recommendations.
- Assist with the preparation and submissions of IRB protocols and annual reviews.
- Assist with the implementation of study protocols in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policies including maintenance of study records and study binders.
- Assist with other research duties as needed.
The administrative duties of the CECC/ADC Research Support Assistant include:
- Support the CECC, Hispanic Treatment Program, and ADC by providing research and administrative support as needed, oversee front desk, preparing clinical charts, and other tasks.
- Support all CECC staff by scheduling in-person and virtual meetings.
- Handle travel and events logistics (e.g., making travel arrangements, scheduling meeting rooms, parking requests, arranging refreshments).
- Prepare and process travel reimbursements, pay orders, purchase requisitions, order of supplies, and provide other administrative support for CECC/ADC projects and activities. Including coordinating CECC volunteers.
- Maintain CECC's website and listserv to disseminate project and research findings and communicate with research and community partners.
- Manage the Center's Cultural Formulation Interview online module, subscriptions, and customer support. Register group and individual subscriptions. Process payments and facilitate access to online module.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Public Health, pre-medical studies, or another related field required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluency in Spanish
- Experience working with mental health, Latino population, cultural competence, equity and/or other social determinants of health
- Experience preparing reports, research articles, and/or grant applications
- Experience with PubMed, and EndNote or other bibliography management databases
- Experience with WordPress, SPSS, or other software applications
- Experience with qualitative analysis and/or software such as ATLAS.ti or NVivo
