This 10-week summer intern position will be part of the Research team working at the interface of our one-of-a kind DNA methylation-based dataset of >10,000 cell-free DNA samples, outstanding cloud computing infrastructure, and unparalleled curated clinical data to discover novel biological insights into the detection of early stage cancer. You will be trained in the development of methods, analysis, pipelines, and algorithms of next-generation sequencing data, for cancer detection, conformance to regulatory requirements. You will participate with other summer interns, and in our scientific excellence and innovation culture in the San Francisco Bay Area!
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Prototype, optimize, and implement new NGS-based assays for early cancer detection
- Design, plan and execute wet-lab experiments and conduct data analysis using appropriate software (e.g., R, JMP)
- Summarize, present and document study outcomes
- Present and participate in group meetings and discussions
Potential Areas of Focus
- Propose and evaluate NGS Library Preparation workflows to meet requirements for target applications (e.g., performance, cost, throughput)
- Execute experiments to evaluate and optimize assay protocol performance
Your background should include:
- Enrolled in a master's degree or PhD graduate program in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, cancer genomics or relevant disciplines
- Experience with NGS library preparation workflows and molecular biology techniques
- Experience with developing and optimizing NGS assay protocols
- Experience with genomic data analysis using R or Python
