About the Department
The TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health (TMW Center) is an interdisciplinary research institute at the University of Chicago that develops and scales evidence-based interventions designed to support parents and caregivers in their efforts to optimize the foundational brain development of children, birth to three years, through talk and interaction. TMW curricula integrate neuroscience, early childhood development research, adult learning strategies and stakeholder feedback on a multimedia platform. Our approach harnesses technology, works across systems, and informs how to bring best practices and interventions that work to scale.
Job Summary
The Thirty Million Words Center seeks a Research Coordinator to support an array of administrative and operational duties that are essential to the effectiveness of the TMW team. The Research Coordinator performs routine assignments related to scientific research projects including ensuring compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day duties related to the SPEAK CAT feedback tool development, including video coding, prompt writing and UI/UX.
  • Train and manage volunteers and additional research associates to code video.
  • Support formative testing of tool content.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support. Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience in a research lab or setting.
  • Experience working collaboratively and respectfully with colleagues, especially those of differing backgrounds.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of early childhood developmental stages and pedagogy and/or early education setting: childcare, Pre-K, or early elementary education.
  • Knowledge and skills developed through work experience or training in early education, early childhood systems, applied research, or related discipline.
  • General awareness in research techniques, survey research methods or methods and relevant scientific knowledge.

Preferred Competencies

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
