Job SummaryPerforms activities leading to the establishment of an externally funded research program (e.g., experimental design and implementation, data collection, reduction, and interpretation, manuscript and grant development, and administrative tasks related to the research). Serves as Principal Investigator (PI)/CO-PI for projects and grants, as well as other interdepartmental projects.
**This position is considered limited-term staff since it utilizes contingent funding. Continued employment is contingent upon availability of grant funding for this position.**
ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs research activities leading to externally funded research program
2. Mentors undergraduate students performing research and supervises research lab
3. Leads and conducts research initiatives
4. Conducts experimental design and implementation, data collection, reduction, interpretation, manuscript and grant development
5. Uses standard evaluation tools and methods and assists in creation of new data collection instruments when necessary
6. Responsible for grant writing, proposal development
7. Manages research space, including equipment if needed
8. Performs all duties described in grants and external projects, including but not limited to preparing progress and final reports, conducting literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data, attending grant related meetings, and preparing publications
9. Supervises and mentors other members of grant team when required by grant
10. Disseminates knowledge through reports, articles, white papers, other publications and presentations at local, state and national level
11. Prepares lectures and presentations
Educational Requirements
Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Experience with grant writing and securing grants
Experience conducting research, including analytical skills
Proficient computer skills, use of statistical packages and proficiency in navigating and maintaining databases
Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, Atlas.ti, NVivo, etc.)
Experience with data collection processes
ABILITIES
Able to lead and conduct research
Able to supervise others' work by virtue of being a program manager, project director/principal investigator, co-project director/principal investigator, or task leader on sponsored research
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
KNOWLEDGE
Publication of research results is highly desirable
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, statistical analysis software (SPSS))
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
This is a supervisory position.
