Job Description:
Overview:
This industrial and DOE-funded position will perform research and technical services on carbon dioxide (CO2) and related storage in the subsurface environment. Duties are to perform analytical and numerical modeling to study the processes and to perform subsurface reservoir characterization utilizing well logs, geologic models and seismic data. The successful candidate will have experience with some combination of characterization and modeling tools such as Petrel, ArcGIS, CMG tools (IMEX, GEM and/or STARS) or equivalent tools from other vendors. The successful candidate will also have a track record of publications with good communication skills.
Job duties for all Research Assoc ranks:
-Develop numerical and/or analytic models, evaluate leakage risk factors and develop risk assessment evaluations for natural gas, carbon and hydrogen storage in the subsurface on- and off-shore Louisiana.
-Evaluate or develop monitoring plans to mitigate the evaluated risk factors for subsurface storage.
-Prepare and develop surveys and graphics for public outreach related to subsurface storage.
-Prepare and submit conference and journal manuscripts of the work in a timely fashion. Present project results to internal and external parties.
Differentiating job duties in Research Assoc 4:
The incumbent qualifying in this rank will be expected to perform all operations described in rank 3. The major differentiating feature is that he or she will perform advanced research and technical services and well as develop highly specialized risk assessment evaluations.
Differentiating job duties in Research Assoc 5:
The incumbent qualifying in this rank will be expected to perform all duties described in ranks 3 and 4. The major differentiating features are that he or she will be expected to manage this research project and direct daily operations with little supervision. Additionally, he or she may be required to train and supervise new staff.
Minimum Qualifications for Research Associate 3:
Bachelor's in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or related Engineering, Geology or Geophysics, or closely related field with 2-4 years of experience. Experience substitute: Master's in related field. Specific experience: (1) Familiar with and experience in subsurface reservoir characterization utilizing well logs, geologic models and seismic data; (2) Knowledge of reservoir characterization and modeling tools such as Petrel, ArcGIS, CMG tools (IMEX, GEM and/or STARS) or equivalent tools from other vendors; (3) knowledge of flow and heat transport in porous media.
Preferred Qualifications for Research Associate 3:
Master's in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or related Engineering, Geology or Geophysics, or closely related field. Specific experience: See minimum quals listed above.
Minimum Qualifications for Research Associate 4:
Master's in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or related Engineering, Geology or Geophysics, or closely related field and 1-2 years of experience. Specific experience: (1) Familiar with and experience in subsurface reservoir characterization utilizing well logs, geologic models and seismic data; (2) Knowledge of reservoir characterization and modeling tools such as Petrel, ArcGIS, CMG tools (IMEX, GEM and/or STARS) or equivalent tools from other vendors; (3) knowledge of flow and heat transport in porous media.
Preferred Qualifications for Research Associate 4:
PhD in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or related Engineering, Geology or Geophysics, or closely related field with 0 years of experience. Specific experience: See minimum quals listed above.
Minimum Qualifications for Research Associate 5:
Master's in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or related Engineering, Geology or Geophysics, or closely related field and 2-4 years of experience or (PhD) terminal degree in a related field. Specific experience: (1) Familiar with and experience in subsurface reservoir characterization utilizing well logs, geologic models and seismic data; (2) Knowledge of reservoir characterization and modeling tools such as Petrel, ArcGIS, CMG tools (IMEX, GEM and/or STARS) or equivalent tools from other vendors; (3) knowledge of flow and heat transport in porous media.
Preferred Qualifications for Research Associate 5:
PhD in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engr, Chemical Engr, nuclear Engr or related degree with 2 years of experience. Specific experience: See minimum quals listed above.
