JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Research Assistant to support the Clinical Investigations Department (CID) at the Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune (NMCCL). The Research Assistant will support CID and Principal Investigators (PIs) in all phases of CID research protocols in accordance with written Department of Defense (DoD); Department of the Navy (DoN); Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED), and NMCCL regulations, policies, and procedures . NMCCL/CID is engaged advancing scholar activity that is operationally relevant to both the Command and the community. CID currently supports several research efforts in fields related to traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, alternative treatment therapies, prevention and treatment of mental health disorders, military training and readiness, etc. These efforts directly relate to improving DoD support to the warfighter and their families.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Assist PIs, research team members, and other staff in developing, planning, executing, and closing clinical research studies.
Assist the Compliance Officer with the monitoring process to ensure protocol compliance.
Recruit and screen subjects.
Maintain files and records of ongoing research projects.
Maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA and institutional regulations.
Schedule patient appointments by phone and using MHS Genesis or other methods as prescribed by the protocol, command, and clinic structure and assist in the appointment visits.
Data collection:
- Conduct research subject surveys (complete questionnaires) via telephone, email or in person.
- Conduct research subject visit (e.g., present questionnaires and collect demographics data).
- Transfer data from questionnaires and data sheets to the databases.
- Conduct data collection and enter data into Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) databases (if applicable).
- Obtain patient's medical record/reports following procedures.
- Obtain lab, x-ray and other results as needed, via MHS Genesis.
Perform administrative duties related to the research to include:
- Prepare progress reports
- Documentation of correspondence and communication pertinent to the research projects
- Obtain signatures and deliver documents for PIs.
Actively participate in CID departmental and command-wide research educational and training programs by providing instruction, presentations, and assistance to research staff as needed.
Attend conferences and meetings as required by the research protocol, PI or sponsoring agency.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in Biology, Healthcare, or related discipline (such as Psychology) and one year working experience in a medical or research setting (includes hospital, physician’s office, or academic setting, i.e., pre-med student) OR a minimum of three years working experience in a medical or research setting (includes hospital, physician’s office, or academic setting, i.e., pre-med student).
Speak fluent English (both orally and written) and the ability to communicate in a professional, concise, and effective manner with peers, colleagues, and customers.
Ability to follow general and specific instructions (including safety precautions in a field environment and to mitigate risk of exposure to infectious diseases).
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge or experience coordinating research protocols
Certification as:
- Certified Clinical Trial Investigator (CCTI)
- Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC)
- Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) or the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SCRA).
