Reporting Relationship: Outpatient Nursing Manager
General Summary of Responsibilities: This position is responsible for providing respiratory care to patients throughout the lifespan as ordered by the attending medical provider. This position entails the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of various respiratory care modalities within the scope of practice allowed by the Statutes, Rules and Regulations of the State of Nebraska relating to respiratory care.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Maintains the standards of respiratory care by implementing the hospital's and departmental policies and procedures.
2. Provides individualized respiratory care to patients of all ages as ordered by the Licensed Medical Provider (LMP).
3. Performs diagnostic testing such as EKG, Holter and Event Monitoring, Stress Testing, PulmonaryFunction Testing (PFT), Ambulatory B/P Monitoring.
4. Participates in hospital and departmental committees such as Infection Control, Safety, Quality Assurance and others as assigned.
5. Participates in the development of the plan of care and discharge planning for individuals throughout the lifespan
6. Performs pulmonary evaluations as ordered by the LMP and as based on the individual patient's response to respiratory procedures.
7. Provides patient and nursing staff education regarding respiratory assessment, testing, and proper use of equipment as needed.
8. Implements patient treatments applying standards of care in the use of nebulizers, inhalers, approved bags and masks, incentive spirometry, CPAP, BiPAP, ventilators, and other departmental equipment.
9. Participates as a team Member in the Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab Program.
10. Ensures departmental Equipment is properly maintained and cared for.
Other Job Functions:
1. Provides regular inservice teaching for nursing staff and students as scheduled.
2. Takes Call and responds appropriately for respiratory emergencies on a rotating basis.
3. Works rotating weekends and holidays as scheduled.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Job Qualifications:
Education:
Required: Graduate of a NBRC (National Board of Respiratory Care) approved program.
RRT credentials with NBRC in good standing in Nebraska.
Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Care or a related field. Pulmonary Function Testing Credentials (CPFT or RPFT).
Experience:
Required: New graduate of an approved NBRC program.
Preferred: Two or more years of recent acute care clinical experience as a Licensed registered Respiratory Therapist. Pulmonary Rehab and Electrodiagnostic experience.
License/Certifications:
Required: Current Nebraska license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist Or Current Nebraska Registed Nurse Licensure
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate for healthcare workers.
Preferred: Current ACLS certificate.
Current CPFT or RPFT certificate.
Conditional: ACLS within six months of hire date.
