Performs a variety of technical radiologic procedures using standard, portable and/or specialized x-ray equipment to apply prescribed ionizing radiation in order to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients' illnesses and injuries. Performs related tasks such as assisting patients in positioning for correct anatomical exposure, maintaining order and cleanliness of work area and performing routine clerical tasks.
Major Responsibilities:
- Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times. Obtains and examines the requisition for imaging examination. Always checks patient identification band for inpatients and two methods of identification for outpatients before any procedure is performed. Obtains informed consent and/or contrast questionnaire when appropriate and consults with appropriate Radiologist regarding contrast administration, imaging protocols.
- Participates in transfer of patients if needed, positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure in order to obtain and effect the desired screening/diagnostic results as specified by the physician.
- Follows all department established and appropriate policies and procedures as required. Makes changes and adjustments to techniques as required by observance of physician, Supervisor and self-improvement and initiative.
- Provides protection according to department policy to unaffected areas of the body from radiation exposure in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
- Calculates and selects proper technical factors as appropriate to the procedure. Selects equipment appropriate to the patient and the examination to be performed. Positions patient and equipment to provide images specified by department protocol or requisition form.

Required:
- RTR licensure in the Commonwealth Massachusetts, this includes a temporary (1 year) MA license.
- ARRT certification in Radiology is required within 12 months from date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
- BLS certification.
- Some specialty modalities may require additional formal training and certification.

Required:
- Maintain all area specific CEUs for ARRT, DPH according to regulation.
