Description:

The Quality Supervisor, under the direction of the Quality Manager, is responsible for supervision of the Quality Technicians, control of the quality lab, quality documentation, and data analysis and report preparation. In the absence of the production supervisor will also organize, coordinate and supervise the production operation to meet and improve quality and production requirements in the most efficient and economical manner.


The employee in this classification is responsible for the supervision and control of the general quality functions. This includes the gage lab, gage calibration, certification, and statistical accumulation. This individual is also responsible for SPC reporting on a regular and special request basis; assisting departments with quality issues and determination of resolution to non-conformances identified in production. Participation in the implementation and management of TS-16949 including the annual audit preparation and completion of action items as identified.


The employee will work under the direction of the Quality Manager; will operate standard office equipment including a computer; and will design and utilize computer reports and output. The employee's work setting will normally be the office. The employee will need to be familiar with current and new regulations and guidelines relating to quality and manufacturing principles.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises and trains those employees in quality.
  • Set up and continued management of the quality lab and equipment.
  • Implement and manage the processes for calibration and certification of all gages and equipment.
  • Data collection and reporting (SPC charts, etc.).
  • Product measurement including testing products at specified stages in production process, for a variety of qualities, such as dimensional, performance, and mechanical characteristics.
  • Product complaint investigation (External Customers and non-compliances).
  • Discrepancy Report Investigations (Internal non-compliances).
  • Product and process disposition (support role).
  • Support Engineering Change Notice reviews for impact to process and system.
  • Coordinator for all Quality Technicians.
  • Participation in the implementation of TS 16949 and the requirements as applicable to the Quality Lab.
  • Training and evaluation activities.
  • Supplier Control Activities (containment of product).
  • Additional responsibilities as requested.

In the absence of a production supervisor, will also be responsible for:

  • Reviews production requirements and determines production schedules in conjunction with the production manager.
  • Determines engineering, materials and personnel needs necessary to meet those schedules and communicates them to the responsible managers. Follows work-in-process (WIP) to assure work is proceeding satisfactorily.
  • Studies, institutes and maintains efficient and safe work practice procedures and facilities. Keeps abreast of safety requirements and new developments in order to maintain an injury free, highly efficient plant operation.
  • Maintain build downtime and issue reporting from daily activities.
  • Is knowledgeable of all work stations on the production floor and has the job skill abilities to fill in on the production floor on an as needed basis.
  • Improves the abilities, skills and knowledge of production personnel through appropriate instruction and training.
  • Assures strict compliance with all quality control standards by maintaining a current and complete acquaintance with quality standards consistent with the company’s reputation as a “Quality Producer”.
  • Provides counseling as required. Listens to all suggestions and complaints in order to maintain open lines of communication which could result in performance improvement.
  • Analyzes production to determine where improvements may be made which will contribute to plant profitability.
  • Assists in developing a Just-In-Time (JIT) delivery system and maintains shipping requirements.

EDUCATION / SKILL / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree in an Engineering discipline including design, industrial, or manufacturing.
  • A working knowledge of Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) and the required documentation.
  • A working knowledge of Control Plans and the development of required documentation.
  • A working knowledge of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and the required documentation.
  • Knowledge of appropriate management and supervisory skills to supervise general quality staff.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications including spreadsheets, databases, use of computers.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with co-workers, supervisor, management, and department head staff and various agency personnel.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with a wide range of people.
  • A working knowledge of the implementation and management for certification and calibration of measurement instruments.
  • A working knowledge of Root Cause Analysis and tools utilized for investigation and correction.
  • A working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) principles and practices.
  • An understanding of quality systems and an awareness of TS 16949.
