The Purchasing Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating all aspects of global materials purchasing for True Value Manufacturing to support established objectives which emphasize supplier management for cost, quality, delivery, and process improvement. Manages complete raw material supply chain issues including, top dollar purchases, chemical and packaging raw materials and contracts; ensures competitive pricing and continuity of supply; and maintains vendor partnerships. Directs the raw material cost reduction program and vendor evaluations. Assists R&D in developing new sources and engages with all departments to improve raw material flow and processes.
Responsibilities (May perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned).
1. Responsible for managing and general administrative supervision of raw material, packaging, labeling, sales aides, and finished goods inventories.
2. Establishes annual standard raw material costs. Advises management of raw material cost changes, commodity price trends, industry competitive situations and supply/demand situations.
3. Determines approval status of claims or expenses resulting from internal or external mishandling, faulty materials or breach of contract. Responsible for final disposition of discontinued, obsolete raw material and finished goods.
4. Develops specific annual purchasing goals within the business objectives and reports on performance in relationship to those goals.
5. Leads and executes current and future business strategies for quality, on-time delivery, material cost reductions.
6. Negotiates all major agreements and contracts.
7. Determines best sources and makes final decisions on selection of all major suppliers.
8. Evaluates the performance of vendors for price, delivery, product acceptability and vendor service. Anticipates and negotiates possible price changes.
9. Manages and coordinates with Purchasing Staff and Labs, new and alternate raw materials, formula changes, specification changes, vendor selection, market conditions, and vendor performance issues, and pricing situations.
10. Develops departmental systems and procedures, establishes objectives, and defines results for direct reports.
11. Oversees and administers new orders directly between Customer and GPM operations, including Manufacturing, Production & Inventory Control, Purchasing, Customer Service, Labs, Regulatory, Accounting and Shipping.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Supply Chain or equivalent work experience.
- 7-10 years of experience, preferably in Supply Chain, Manufacturing and/or Purchasing.
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
