Publishing and Business Development Assistant, Random House Worlds(Open to Remote)
Random House Worlds, a division of Penguin Random House, is seeking an Assistant to report to the Deputy Publisher and to support the Publishing and Licensing team across the Random House Worlds, Del Rey, and Inklore imprints.
These three imprints represent the best in genre and pop culture publishing.
- Del Rey: original science fiction, fantasy, horror, thriller, romance, and speculative fiction
- Random House Worlds: licensed publishing (both fiction and nonfiction/illustrated) with high-profile brands such as Star Wars, Dungeons & Dragons, Minecraft, Bridgerton, Stranger Things, and more
- Inklore: graphic storytelling, including graphic novels, manga, manhwa, and more
We are a highly collaborative group who love to bring our authentic style of nerdery to our favorite original stories and pop culture worlds. The Publishing team, in particular, is responsible for liaising between all of the departments who touch a book (Editorial, Marketing, Publicity, Art, Sales, etc.) to make sure we’re in step for the many beats throughout a book’s life. The Publishing Assistant will be responsible for daily administrative activities and coordinating between various teams to make sure we stay organized and hit key deadlines.
Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Candidates should have demonstrated success in a fast-paced work environment that necessitates managing complicated schedules and attention to administrative detail. Random House Worlds is a collaborative publishing environment, and candidates should be comfortable working as part of a team and willing to go the extra mile for authors and licensing partners.

The Role:
- Scheduling and organizing a host of weekly and seasonal meetings, including taking and distributing minutes
- Maintaining tracking systems for publication schedules and Business deal status
- Tracking deadlines and assembling materials for seasonal Sales presentations
- Communicating with the editorial teams on upcoming materials deadlines
- Coordinating timing for calls with authors, agents, and partners
- Maintaining digital archive of contracts and key business documents
- Preparing creative pitch decks for proposals
- Working with analytics team on research projects
- Submitting titles for yearly awards consideration
- Orchestrating the web ‘feed’ of title details tied to announcements
- Representing the imprint at possible trade and consumer shows
- Ad hoc administrative duties for the Publishing and Licensing team
The Essentials:
- Genuine interest in genre, licensed, and pop culture publishing, as well as the business side of the book industry
- Strong organizational, scheduling, and time management skills
- Strong ability to track and maintain systems with many moving pieces
- Self-motivation to communicate early and often with internal teams to prepare them for upcoming deadlines
- Exceptional attention to detail and follow-up skills
- Strong ability to multitask and prioritize under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
- Collaborative and curious, willingness to take on special projects as needed
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
- Design skills for pitch deck presentations a plus
- No relocation is required, position can be remote
The salary for this position is $48,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
