THE OPPORTUNITY
The Publicity Assistant position is an exciting opportunity to learn the business of children’s books from the world’s leading publisher of content for kids. This role requires a highly-organized individual with meticulous attention to detail and strong communication skills. The Scholastic Publicity Department is a fast-paced environment with multiple projects going on at once. The position will be responsible for a variety of tasks including media mailing organization and tracking, creating press materials, booking author travel, etc . Additionally, this role will act as the primary publicity contact for 15–20 authors per season, securing media coverage, booking school visits and other events.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Vice President and the Publicity department with administrative duties including mailings, routing projects, tracking reviews, galley orders, etc.
- Manage monthly galley mailing process
- Pitch media for reviews, author interviews, seasonal roundups, and other coverage
- Plan and execute author events, including travel booking
- Track media coverage and maintain correspondence with trade journals
- Create and format pitch documents and PowerPoint decks
- Manage and process invoices on behalf of the department
