The Role
The Public Relations Manager will be a member of the Marketing team dedicated to driving awareness and attendance for the Bronx Zoo and New York Aquarium.
The Public Relations Manager will work directly with our PR agency and manage our earned media for attendance driving initiatives, including drafting an annual communication strategy with the agency, crafting press materials, pitching to key reporters as well as influencers/bloggers, and measuring our impact.
We are looking for a candidate with a track record of securing breakthrough earned media coverage. The ideal candidate should be someone that is storyteller at heart with a passion for writing and creating press opportunities.
What you’ll do:
Partner with PR agency to design & activate annual earned media strategy with the goal of creating buzz/awareness and driving attendance to the Bronx Zoo and New York Aquarium. This will include leveraging our public events, such as Holiday Lights, or creating key moments/opportunities throughout the year that will keep the brand top-of-mind and create excitement to visit.
Lead day-to-day tasks including managing PR agency and deliverables, writing press releases, responding to media inquiries, and oversee any on-site press events.
Proactively build & nurture media and influencer/blogger relationships.
Effectively manage all communications projects and processes for on-time and on-budget project delivery.
Measure, analyze and report on the impact of earned media and will report on regularly.
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in related profession/field.
5+ years’ experience working in PR/Comms at an agency or in-house.
Experience successfully designing & activating earned media strategies for large brand.
A track record of delivering breakthrough earned media coverage.
A can-do attitude and commitment to delivering creative solutions for internal stakeholders.
A relationship builder, who can navigate multi-stakeholder input and drive messaging forward even while operating in a continually changing external environment.
Impeccable storytelling, written and oral communication skills.
Experience managing agencies and creatively resourcing needs to achieve business goals on a budget.
Highly organized and calm, resourceful, critical thinker who thrives at problem-solving.
Experience with Zoo, Aquarium, Cultural Institution or Attraction is a plus.
