Public Health Specialist

Washington County Public Health is currently accepting applications to fill two vacancies in the title of Public Health Specialist*. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024. The position involves Public Health work for assigned Public Health programs. The work is performed under the general direction of the Public Health Director and/or the Director of Patient Services. Supervision of others is not a responsibility of this position. Will perform all related work as required.

*This is a Civil Service Competitive position. Provisional appointee must take a future-dated exam and be reachable on the resulting Eligible List for permanent appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A) Possession of a master’s degree or higher in Public Health or health education from a regionally accredited or New York State-registered college or university; OR

B) Possession of a baccalaureate degree in health education, health science, Public Health, health promotion, community health, or health communications from a regionally accredited or New York State-registered college or university; OR

C) Possession of a baccalaureate degree in education, nursing, epidemiology, wellness and fitness, or nutrition from a regionally accredited or New York State-registered college or university and one (1) year experience in health education; OR

D) Possession of a baccalaureate degree in marketing, human services, social work or psychology from a regionally accredited or New York State-registered college or university and two (2) years’ experience in health education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must be available during a Public Health emergency, AND

must possess a valid New York State driver’s license at time of appointment.

STARTING RATE OF PAY: $28.89/hour plus excellent benefits
