Description
Under general direction from the Earth to Sky Park Coordinator, serves as co-manager of the Bare Dark Sky Observatory. Prepares for and leads community viewing nights & private rentals and oversees the maintenance of the facility. Assumes responsibilities with minimal supervision, exercises initiative, makes decisions, and handles routine matters independently.

Primary Duties
- Lead events at the Observatory
- Operate the Sam Scope and all other telescopes at the Observatory
- Provide in depth instruction during events, during different weather conditions and different seasons
- Work with the Observatory Assistant in scheduling community viewing nights and private rentals and customer service related duties
- Provide basic maintenance for the Observatory such as keeping facility clean and trash free, ensuring security of building and equipment, do basic telescope maintenance, communicate with Earth to Sky Park Coordinator if there are any issues that need attention.
- Serve as an ambassador to the Earth to Sky Park and Mayland Community College
- Ongoing astronomy learning thru research and communication with local amateur astronomers and astronomy clubs.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess the following: (Show these and related qualifications on application)
- Associate Degree or High School Degree, plus 5 years' experience in the field of astronomy
- Must have considerable experience and more than basic knowledge of astronomy terminology, factoids, and concepts, including: star formation and life cycles, constellations, planets, nebula, star clusters, galaxies, magnitude, light speed, black holes, history of astronomy, etc.
- Experience in operating different types of telescopes, with and without motor drive.
- Demonstrate a passion for astronomy with the ability to teach for two hours
- Working knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft software
- Good organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
- Works extremely well on an independent basis and is dependable
- Ability to interact tactfully and courteously with the general public, donors, faculty, staff, and students
- Ability to maintain effective and efficient working relationships with others.

- Ability to lift 50lbs, have good balance and coordination in a night setting and stand on concrete for 2-3 hours
