Job Description
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Global Partnerships, Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory (GFL), the Project Manager Senior will be responsible for strategic management and advancement of ASU GFL global and national networks and select partnerships, overseeing and managing local and global networks as well as key external relationships in order to achieve Global Futures' innovative and critical mission of helping create optimal conditions for life on a healthy planet.
The Project Manager Senior works closely and collaboratively with global and national stakeholders to plan, direct, organize, and execute against project requirements; identifies and acquires necessary resources and coordinates efforts by all parties to ensure timely delivery of project outcomes in accordance with sponsoring source's expectations. The Project Manager Senior independently ensures that the goals and objectives of the project or program are accomplished in accordance with priorities, time limitations, funding limitations or other specifications.
Working Environment
  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer.
  • Bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties.
  • Ability to interpret complex sponsor regulations.
  • Review of completed tasks; provides and reviews assigned work activities to team members for quality and achievement of set goals.
  • Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.

Flexible work options
  • Alternative work schedules can include four, 10-hour workdays in a workweek; a nine-day, 80-hour schedule over two workweeks for exempt employees only; and staggered start and stop times.
  • Hybrid work is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location. Dean or vice president-level approval is required.
  • Remote work is an arrangement where the employee spends less than 60% of their regular workweek at a regularly assigned ASU work location. Executive vice president-level approval is required.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years related experience; 3 of which include project management, OR, any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience developing strategies and specifications for large projects, ability to manage multiple large complex projects.
  • Experience in fostering partnerships; developing understanding of needs, issues, problems.
  • Experience with multi-stakeholder partnerships.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of sustainability principles, the climate crisis, and JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion).
Strong knowledge of program management principles, change management practices, and techniques needed for large, complex projects including:
  • Developing proposals for external funding of projects.
  • Planning, budgeting, implementing and evaluating projects. Knowledge of processes to conduct needs assessments.
  • Designing training materials and presentations to meet needs assessed. Ability to implement training, session reviews, and follow-up procedures.
  • Knowledge of processes for dissemination of results through presentations, reports, and publications.
  • Evidence of effective communication.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and establishing and facilitating work teams.

Essential Duties
Core duties will include:
  • Oversight and strategic management of GFL network engagement, notably, the new Carbon Economy Consortium, co-led by Carbon180, including external relationship management, and ensuring the appropriate connections are made internally with the relevant ASU groups, faculty, and staff.
    • Conducts functions of Global Futures network secretariat roles including scheduling network meetings, coordinating relevant relationship building meetings, external knowledge partner events, and strategically growing the ASU GFL networks for maximum positive impact.
    • Attends and reports on network meetings where ASU serves as a member. Carries out relevant operational duties including network budgeting, travel, and calendaring for meetings.
    • Convene with ASU founded network leaders to ensure strategic alignment and promote their work externally to national and global audiences.
  • Exploration, research, and evaluation of new network opportunities consistent with GFL strategy and resources
  • Support to top priority global partnerships, events, and branding opportunities for GFL including UN agency relationships and other multilateral bodies of relevance to the Global Futures mission.
Current Networks, Partnerships, and Projects include:
  • Oversees ASU's engagement on a range of global networks, partnerships and initiatives including, but not limited to:
    • New Carbon Economy Consortium (NCEC) - a group of universities, research institutions, and national laboratories with intellectual capabilities in critical areas of carbon capture, utilization, and storage; both technology and nature based. NCEC also aligns with policymakers, innovators, and businesses translating research into practical application.
    • Indo-Pacific Environmental Security Forum (IPESF).
    • Conservation International.
    • International University Climate Alliance (IUCA) - emerging university climate alliance organization led by University of New South Wales.
    • Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
    • University Climate Change Coalition (UC3) - coalition of top tier research universities is managed by Second Nature.
  • Strategizes and coordinates select global events and conferences relevant to Global Partnerships & Networks
  • Special initiatives as directed by the Vice President and Vice Provost of Global Futures
