We are currently seeking an accomplished Project Environmental Scientist (NDEC Scientist 4) to assume a leadership role within our environmental team. The successful candidate will oversee qualified staff and/or lead environmental site assessments and remediation efforts at petroleum-contaminated sites, largely on heavy civil transportation jobs in and around the Puget Sound area. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
With a minimum of five years of prior experience in environmental consulting, the chosen candidate will be responsible for overseeing assessments and remediation projects in line with the Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) in Washington State. This will include training, mentoring, and managing staff performing work. This dynamic position involves a well-balanced mix of field and office work, encompassing environmental investigation, site characterization, and remediation activities. Exceptional field note-taking and report-writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are key for success in this role. Candidates must possess an OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification, a clean driving record, and a commitment to safety protocols. Additionally, qualification as a UST (Underground Storage Tank) site assessor is highly desired. This role will entail working in diverse weather conditions during field activities.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in environmental consulting, specifically focused on assessment and remediation sites.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes related to contaminated media.
  • Proven experience in conducting Environmental Site Assessments (Phase I and Phase II).
  • Proficient in preparing comprehensive work plans and assessment reports.
  • Expertise in sampling soil and groundwater through various drilling methods, including direct-push, hollow-stem auger, and similar techniques.
  • Previous experience working on fast-paced heavy civil transportation projects.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, emphasizing innovative and cost-saving solutions.
  • Most work is in and around Puget Sound but must have the ability to occasionally travel to project sites on the Olympic Peninsula and other locations in Western Washington.

Technical Requirements:
  • Proficient in Bluebeam, MS Office suite, and GIS a plus but not required.
  • Exceptional report-writing skills, including the ability to translate complex technical data into clear and concise reports.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop budgets, manage staff, and ensure project timelines and budgets are met.

Other miscellaneous qualities:
  • Ability to travel within the state and open to occasional (infrequent) over-night stays for work.
  • GIS analysis and database expertise is desired but not required.
  • Able to develop and manage budgets.
  • Demonstrated commitment to staying aware of industry advancements and evolving environmental regulations through continuous learning and professional development.

Compensation:
$90K - $115K Annual Salary
The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state's law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
