ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will provide technical support to all aspects of radioactive and non-radioactive air emissions including emission permitting, modeling, quality, and compliance support to a variety of projects. This position interacts with other engineers, managers, Department of Energy (DOE), and regulatory oversight agencies (EPA, Washington State Department of Ecology and Washington State Department of Health).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- B.S. in Engineering or Physics with at least five years of work experience.
- Minimum of 3 years related to Air Quality regulations interpretation and implementation, permitting, modeling and reporting.
- Experience in air dispersion modeling and meteorology.
- Experience originating and checking engineering calculations.
- Knowledge of Air Quality regulations.
- Experience calculating and analyzing emission estimates and source parameters for development of emission scenarios and regulatory compliance.
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office software suite.
- Strong interpersonal skills and well-demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education.
- Must be a United States citizen.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience working on the DOE Hanford site.
- Experience with air dispersion modeling software such as CAP88, AERMOD, and CALPUFF.
- Experience with radiological, criteria, and toxic Air Quality, modeling, regulations for Washington State (WAC 246-247, WAC 173-400, and WAC 173-460).
- Professional Engineering license.
- Knowledge of nuclear/radiological principals to support radiological source term development
- Experience with software including RadCalc and MicroShield.
- Formal training in air dispersion modeling.
- Experience with radiological and non-radiological control technologies. Experience with performing Best Available Radiological Control Technology (BARCT), Best Available Control Technology (BACT), and toxic BACT evaluations.
- Experience with radiological and chemical waste management.
- Moderate to advance knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Experience performing radiation shielding and dose-to-curie evaluations.
