Job Description:
General Summary: Provides administrative support to the Master of Fine Arts Creative Writing (MFA) Assistant Director including, but not limited to, clerical support, document and spreadsheet tracking, and all academic related duties. Additionally, assists with Camp Casey residency planning and support, and special projects as assigned.
Job Duties Include:
- Assists in the administration of the MFA Creative Writing program throughout the year.
- Provides academic support and assistance to SPU students, staff, faculty and guests as needed.
- Assists in coordinating and facilitating the two yearly (March/August) Camp Casey MFA residencies on Whidbey Island. This includes but is not limited to:
Pre-Residency Planning-
- Assisting, overseeing, and training interns for service orientated duties.
- Updating and creating residency handouts, folders, and graduation program.
- Coordinating, organizing, and overseeing lodging and travel for faculty and guests.
- Planning and preparing for the graduation event.
During Residency-
- Assists the AD with facilitating the Camp Casey (March) and SPU Campus (August) residencies.
- Will stay on site at Camp Casey and SPU Campus throughout the residencies (11-12 days).
- Take the lead in overseeing two interns during the March/August residencies.
- Oversees the rotating on-call schedule, coffee and snack service, and miscellaneous faculty/student needs as they arise throughout the residency.
Post-Residency-
- Completes payment, procurement (bankcard) and reimbursement forms for MFA expenses.
- Assists with faculty/residency evaluations and all other follow up duties.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- Previous office or administrative experience preferred
- Excellent written communication skills, including grammar, punctuation, spelling, and typing
- Personal attributes of initiative, self-motivation, dependability, punctuality, and good "people" skills
- Poise in greeting people, desire to serve and participate as integral member of the MFA team
- Detail oriented, and ability to organize and complete multiple tasks in a busy environment
- An active and maturing Christian faith, knowledge of and the willingness to actively support the Christian mission of the University and accept the lifestyle standards of the Christian Community
- Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint

*This position has a limited term of employment, ending in summer of 2025.
Compensation: $22.00 per hour
This is a position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance.
