Job Title: EMT Program Coordinator

PT position

Locations: Austin, Houston, San Antonio

Job Summary: The EMT Program Coordinator in the State of Texas is responsible for managing and coordinating the development and delivery of an accredited Emergency Medical Technician program. This role involves overseeing curriculum development, ensuring instructors meet DSHS and ABHES teaching criteria and clinical placements, and ensuring compliance with state and national standards. The EMT Program Coordinator will work closely with Texas-based educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and regulatory bodies to ensure a successful program that prepares students for EMT certification and a career in emergency medical services under Texas-specific regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development:
    • Develop and maintain a Texas-compliant EMT curriculum that adheres to the standards set by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) and the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT).
    • Stay up-to-date with Texas-specific EMT education requirements and curriculum updates.
    • Plan for and evaluate the overall operation of assigned courses, and provide supervision and oversight for assigned courses.
  • Course Management:
    • Coordinate submission of course approval documents and fees, if applicable, for assigned courses to the department.
    • Assure availability of classrooms and other facilities necessary to provide for the instruction and convenience of students enrolled in assigned courses
    • In cooperation with the training program, maintain all course records for a minimum of five years;
  • Instructor Oversight:
    • Assist in recruiting, training, and providing support to the EMT Program Director and instructors per TDSHS guidelines. Provide instructional support in the absence of a program Director and Instructor.
    • Ensure instructors are knowledgeable about Texas-specific EMT protocols and regulations.
    • In cooperation with the training program evaluate the effectiveness of the personnel who instruct in assigned courses;
  • Student Support:
  • Act as liaison between the students, personnel instructing in assigned courses, the program, and the department.
  • Clinical Placements:
    • Maintain effective relationships with clinical and field internship facilities necessary to meet the instructional objectives of assigned courses.
  • Develop field internship and clinical objectives for assigned courses;
    • Obtain written acknowledgment from the field internship EMS provider medical director, if students will be conducting advanced-level skills as part of their field internship with that EMS provider;
  • Compliance and Accreditation:
    • Ensure that the EMT program maintains accreditation and complies with TDSHS and NREMT requirements.
    • Prepare for and participate in TDSHS and NREMT accreditation reviews, addressing any Texas-specific standards.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Manage program budgets, resources, and supplies, taking into account any Texas-specific financial guidelines.
    • Maintain accurate records, including student transcripts and program statistics as per Texas regulations.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Build and maintain relationships with local Texas EMS agencies and healthcare organizations, fostering a strong network within the state.
    • Promote the program in the Texas community to attract potential students.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., healthcare administration, education).
  • Current A-EMT certification or higher level of EMS certification in Texas, and Basic/Advanced Coordinator Certification.
  • Prior teaching or program coordination experience, with knowledge of Texas-specific EMS education requirements.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with Texas healthcare regulations and standards, including TDSHS guidelines.
  • Must be able to travel to campuses on a regular basis.
