Nordson Polymer Processing Systems (PPS) designs and manufactures industrial equipment used to melt and give shape to plastic materials. Our products include pelletizing and filtration systems, extrusion dies, and recycling equipment that enables our customers to transform waste into purified reusable raw material.
Job Summary
The Production Supervisor will manage production operations with key focus on the NBS Next Framework. They will also work with teams and other Production Supervisors to proactively meet customer requirements and help the team achieve continuous improvements in the areas of Safety, Quality (COPQ), Delivery (OTD), Cost, Standard Work, Employee Morale, and Work Environment. Second shift starts at 4p.m.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Quality/Safety
* Demonstrate and promote the Nordson safety culture of "Journey to Zero" and that all accidents are preventable.
* Actively ensure employees are working within the safety and quality policies and procedures.
* Take a leadership role in Quality including managing, recording & delivering corrective actions.
* Support and help drive the implementation of Quality Assurance on the manufacturing floor.
* Help drive our company goals of reducing COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality).
Production
* Manage and ensure proper training of Production Associates.
* Hold weekly shift meeting with a focus on safety, quality, performance, and continuous improvement.
* Prioritize workflow to ensure the manufacturing of products are meeting delivery requirements, company performance standards, and customer specification, in accordance with Nordson EDI's policies and procedures.
* Review department staffing for shift and makes necessary arrangements for coverage, overtime, etc.
* Communicate problems, needs and other important information to department manager and/or other supervisors as appropriate.
* Maintain departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provide regular progress reports to functional areas within organization including purchasing, engineering, etc.
* Help drive our company goals of increasing our OTD (On-Time Delivery) Initiatives.
Continuous Improvement
* Continually evaluate processes and methods, recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment, performance, utilization of people, and quality of product
* Contribute to success of team by submitting improvement ideas, identifying potential problems, providing feedback on new methods or method changes and by displaying a positive, cooperative attitude in working with orders.
Performance Management
* Ensure employees are trained on specific job requirements, safety, and quality.
* Supervise, coach, and counsel employees to address performance concerns and achieve a high level of performance.
* Interview and hire employees as needed to ensure a fully productive team.
* Provide performance feedback to employees and conduct evaluations on time.
* Monitors and reviews accuracy of all direct reports. Performs random periodic verification of product quality, paperwork accuracy and good manufacturing practices.
* Champion effective communication across all-shifts & departments. Provide overall management direction and leadership to teams by coaching employees to develop critical skills, clearly communicating the organizations vision and strategies, and helping teams translate those business strategies to their daily work.
* Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
* Minimum associate degree in applicable field with 2-4 years of experience within a manufacturing environment ( Bachelor's degree preferred), or comparable number of years of experience
* Proven ability to lead a group of employees and establish outstanding communication rapport
* Solid independent judgment with excellent problem solving skills
* Analytical aptitude and strong organizational skills
* Previous experience leading or supervising a team of employees within a manufacturing environment
Preferred Skills and Abilities
* Previous experience with ERP/MRP systems
* Proficient with Microsoft Office products
