Production Supervisor - 3rd Shift
Role Overview:
The Production Supervisor is the individual directly responsible for daily staffing (scheduling and management) of the production and packaging rooms and making sure that our operating equipment is running properly to produce food safely, least cost, high quality products in a safe manufacturing environment (advising maintenance of any concerns). It is also the shared responsibility of this individual to ensure that production workers are trained and observing safe working practices. This individual translates our weekly production schedule at floor level ensuring the right products are produced, properly labeled and produced in the right quantities.
Reports to: Production Manager
Principal Duties:
- Creates daily plan for where individuals are stationed in the production and packaging process. Trains and oversees others training.
- Implements/translates daily production schedule at floor level, ensuring that it is met in terms of formula translation and number of required batches.
- Ensures finished product is properly labeled per customer requirements.
- Makes sure all necessary raw materials are available and properly staged for efficient production of the daily production schedule. Work with inventory/warehouse/ordering personnel.
- Translates Ornua’s food quality and food safety procedures, policies and protocols, including HACCP, onto the production and packaging floors. Creates and updates training materials to assist in same. Does the necessary record keeping and documentation encompassed with all programs.
- Problem solves any people or equipment related issues on production and packaging floors as they occur. Documents problem issues as they occur via written report and/or photography and works to resolve issues with the Maintenance Manager.
- Ensures planned production elements such as filter changes take place timely.
- Assists with product changeovers.
- Determines when daily breaks are to occur in production and packaging rooms.
- Ensures equipment is ready for start and end of day procedures.
- Takes daily attendance and reports temp workers, absences, vacations, and early quits.
- Generates documentation for use on the productions/packaging lines.
- Stays abreast of current thought and practice in food manufacturing and manufacturing in general, through outside reading, networking, attendance at relevant seminars and the use of consultants.
- Helps the Plant Management Team in ensuring facility meets MDA, FDA and USDA requirements as well as the BRC and customer audits.
- Participate in the Risk Management Program as applicable:
- Assist in accident/near miss incidents as needed.
- Perform daily pre-op audits.
- Review occupational JSA’s as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school education or higher
- Must be in good work standing with regards to performance and attendance to be considered
- At least 1 year experience supervising a production work force, food companies preferred but not required
- Excellent people skills
- Excellent verbal, analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask effectively
- Knowledge of production equipment design (sanitary design knowledge a plus)
- Knowledge of using computer programs, including Word and Excel
- HACCP/Good Manufacturing Practice knowledge and understanding a must
- Inventory control experience needed
- Food Allergen and Nutrition labeling law knowledge a plus
- Must be able to work the hours of 10:00pm-6:00am after training period (hours to vary as needed)
