POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
This position will assist in scheduling and timeliness of the production process to ensure the company meets all deadlines. Their duties include assisting the Master Scheduler in verifying material and equipment availability, evaluating production, and monitoring the production process for problems. The candidate finds ways to prevent waste and inefficiency in production processes to help improve scheduling constraints and process flow.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
This intern has the responsibility to support, improve, implement, and evaluate processes based on requirements by management. Specific responsibilities include, but are limited to the following:
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating production of the company’s products.
- Work with both managers and production employees to ensure the company hits its production goals on time and within budget.
- Demonstrate ability to troubleshoot technically challenging problems.
- Create, monitor, and analyze production schedules in accordance with the standard best practice for managers.
- Schedule the production process and departmental activities relating to material, employee, and equipment availability.
- Monitor production process, workflow, and schedules to ensure on-time delivery.
- Efficiently assign production to minimize company costs and meet delivery deadlines.
- Review production specifications, identify, and report plant capacity constraints.
- Work with the manager to execute and implement process improvements.
- Ensure that materials and equipment are pre-arranged for production.
- Work with managers to develop potential solutions to improve production performance.
- Order and stock adequate materials to avoid future shortages.
- Generate daily or weekly production reports to managers for critical decision-making purposes.
- Assist in maintaining production schedules.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Ability to understand production processes, costs, quality control, raw materials, and other methods for maximizing the efficient manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Ability to understand precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Knowledge of the ways various systems interact and how changes in operations, the environment and other conditions will affect outcomes.
- Verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of management.
- Time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment, handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve daily assignments and goals.
- Ability to analyze, review, and make recommendations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree or greater specializing in Industrial Engineering or related field of scheduling.
- Assignment complexity-Generally works on simple to moderately complex work assignments. Articulates in analyzing potential problems, provides options and implements agreed solutions.
- Accountability-Works under limited supervision with freedom to act within the guidelines of his responsibilities.
- Impact of Decisions- Has contributory or shared decision impact. Erroneous decisions may have limited effect on results.
- Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project (High importance), Word knowledge.
PHYSICAL JOB DEMANDS
Ability to lift 60 lbs., work in extreme hot and cold weather, must stand for long periods of time, will be exposed to loud noise levels, operate hand and power tools for long periods of time. Work in an environment with dirt, grease, and dust.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Monday through Friday. Shift, weekend, and overtime as required.
SAFETY
Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety in the workplace; attends monthly safety meetings as required, and for new employees and incorporates various principles into daily work activities to ensure compliance; notifies manager immediately (within 24 hours) of workplace injury and ensures appropriate policies and procedures are followed; reports potential safety hazards immediately to manager.
