The Production Planner is responsible for the effective utilization of resources, plant capacity and equipment to provide a steady flow of production through the assembly and manufacturing departments via an MRP/ERP system that currently uses Oracle for this function.
ResponsibilitiesCreate and manage a daily master schedule to establish sequence lead time of each operation to meet shipping dates according to sales forecasts or customer orders and revise when necessary.
Ensure a regular and steady flow of production by assuring that all the machines are put to maximum use.
Identify replenishment requirements (min/max, safety stock etc.) that need to be changed in database to reflect changes in production needs and vendor lead times.
Act as the contact point for the sales department when they need delivery date information on orders.
Track and report daily efficiencies, work load, capacity, work in process and expected completion dates.
Interface with sales, accounting, shipping, assembly, manufacturing managers and supervisors, to assure production schedules are met.
Maintain desired inventory within the manufacturing department, by issuing work orders to the floor to ensure items are made.
Interface with purchasing department to ensure an uninterrupted supply of materials, services, and equipment.
Interface with the production management team to facilitate material availability in advance of standard or custom work orders.
Use documents and personal observation of work processes and inventories to determine the status of orders and jobs that are in progress.
Expedite operations that delay schedules and alter schedules to meet unforeseen conditions
Prepare defined work packages, including detailed instructions, drawings, bills of material, references, inspection requirements, etc., to initiate and control production work.
Monitor, analyze & report performance to schedule of production & production support activities.
Expedite the placement of purchase orders and/or delivery of material when needed with Purchasing Dept.
Help document Supply Chain Department policies and procedures.
Document workflow and work procedures.
Cross-trains designated back-up.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
Other duties as assigned.
QualificationsB.A. Degree in Business Administration, Production Operations Management, or related discipline, & exposure to network scheduling techniques is highly desirable.
Minimum of 4-5 years within an MRP environment, Oracle experience required
Certifications: APICS Member with CPIM Certification a plus
2+ years' experience as PRODUCTION PLANNER
Strong computer skills - especially Microsoft Office (excel, word), any type of computerized MRP system.
Strong analytical skills
