The Role

We are searching for an experienced Process Engineer reporting into the Manufacturing Engineering Manager who can lead the development and implementation of assembly processes to build world class fuel cells and fuel cell powered trucks. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to develop the assembly process from launch through production ramp.

What You’ll Do

• Evaluate and develop manufacturing assembly processes based on quality criteria, such as efficiency and speed incorporating best practices and a focus on operator safety.
• Study production and machine requirements and develop effective automated and non-automated systems
• Utilize lean manufacturing methods to minimize waste while focusing on operator safety and product quality such as implementing error proofing (poka-yoke) systems with focus on design solutions.
• Lead CI / kaizen activities to drive improvement in all aspects of the manufacturing process
• Create and maintain all necessary value stream maps, PFMEAs, and control plans to ensure product quality
• Produce standard work instructions that visually depict key process steps and critical attributes required to ensure operator safety and product quality
• Develop technical specifications and standards for all equipment, tools, and fixtures required in the manufacturing process
• Lead the design of manufacturing equipment and fixtures through external equipment suppliers as required
• Create and document manufacturing standards and best practices to be shared across facilities
• Test new and existing production procedures
• Organize and manage manufacturing workflows and resources
• Integrate disparate systems (e.g. equipment handling, transport)
• Optimize facility layouts, production lines, machine operations and network performance
• Resolve issues and delays in production
• Train staff in new and existing processes
• Collaborate with other engineers, contractors and suppliers
• Ensure that manufacturing procedures follow safety and environmental regulations
• Upgrade systems and processes with new technology

Qualifications To Be Successful

• Bachelor’s degree and / or 3+ years previous experience as a manufacturing engineer or similar role
• Experience in an automotive or high-volume manufacturing business
• Knowledge of manufacturing assembly processes, fabrication methods and tool designs
• Lean / Six Sigma Certification (e.g. Lean Bronze, Six Sigma Green Belt)
• Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and quality assurance techniques
• Commitment to health and safety standards and environmental regulations
• Experience with the use of process improvement tools (Six Sigma, 8D root cause analysis, Fishbone/Ishikawa diagrams, Pareto charts, Control charts, etc)
• Versed in relevant software (e.g. CAD, Minitab, MS Office)
• Must be self-motivated, with a desire to continuously improve, learn and develop creative solutions
• Effective problem solver with knowledge and experience utilizing structured problem-solving methodology and experience introducing new products
• Exceptional organizational ability with good follow up skills and attention to details is a must

Nice To Have

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering – Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical
• 5+ years of experience in an Automotive or high-volume manufacturing business as a Manufacturing Engineer
• 2+ years of experience in a leadership role or a continuous improvement leader with direct reports.
• Facility design and optimization experience using lean manufacturing tools
• Advanced Lean or Six Sigma certifications (e.g. Black Belt, Lean Silver Certified)
