Position Overview
The Process Engineer will contribute and support our engineering team and technology development at Numat for manufacturing technology and for new products. In addition to project work and delivering projects on-time and on-budget, this individual will also support improving the engineering workflow through standards and documentation development.
In manufacturing development, this individual will support process development projects for adsorbent manufacturing processes in NuMat's development pipeline. This role will require interfacing with manufacturing, commercial, research, and engineering teams. Expect full ownership of projects with freedom to build up new processes and the expectation to roll up your sleeves in the plant and lab.
Responsibilities
- Engineering
- Support engineering projects ($20k - $1M), from design through start-up to support technology development programs and MOF manufacturing at NuMat
- Collaborate with technologists at Numat design, build and demonstrate flow-systems and equipment to that produces high quality data aimed at product and process technology development
- Follow and implement engineering best practices to ensure safe operation of equipment at Numat
- Expand engineering and controls specifications and workflows to improve engineering quality and reduce project delivery times
- Implement best-in-class controls software and automation
- Maintain existing equipment and oversee preventative maintenance
- Technology Development
- Support R&D projects to develop robust, reproducible, and safe processes for MOF manufacturing
- Design and execute experiments to demonstrate system level performance, identify key process variables, validate stability and lifetime, and define operating windows
- Use chemical engineering design principles to select and size equipment for production processes
- Develop technology transfer packages for process commercialization (operation procedures, quality gate, etc.)
- Develop and update cost models and perform sensitivity analysis
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Chemical Engineering or related field with 1-3 years of industry experience
- Experience programming and coding strongly preferred
- Experience in R&D and/or as a design engineer and/or as a project engineer and/or as a Process Engineer preferred
- Experience with PLC programming and wiring preferred
- Experience in flow-sheet development and drafting preferred
- Preferred experience in material formation and post synthetic modification
- Familiarity with kinetic studies, coordination chemistry and/or metal mediated coupling reactions
- Standard chemical synthesis and characterization techniques, such as PXRD, sorption, recrystallization, NMR Spectroscopy, ICP-MS, and/or UV-Vis Spectroscopy
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, resource-constrained, entrepreneurial environment where everyone must play multiple roles
- Willing to be hands on in all facets of the operations - no job is too big or small (familiarity with basic tools, shop experience preferred)
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills: able to distill complex information and present clearly
- Excellent problem-solving skills required; involving critical thinking, decision-making, creativity, and information processing. To be successful in the role, candidates must be able to effectively identify issues along with solutions, implement those solutions and evaluate their effectiveness
- Utilizes strong interpersonal and communications skills to liaise at all levels of an organization, as well as guide and collaborate with associates
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
