Develops and optimizes systems in operating and production facilities for separation, purification, transformation, transportation, and sale/disposition of hydrocarbons, water and contaminants. Focuses on the interaction of fluids with equipment in meeting required compositional specifications, physical conditions, and flow rates.
Supports medium sized clients/customers and makes significant contributions to more complex projects under periodic supervision. General knowledge of the work function and Chevron’s practices.
The Process Engineer will develop and support projects, mentor early career Process Engineers, and interface and support operations. Supports larger customers/clients and may lead functional projects under infrequent supervision, developing a detailed knowledge of the work function. This position will report to a Process Engineering Team Lead in the Technical Department. This position is relied upon for technical expertise to support process optimization, day-to-day operations, process safety improvements and evaluations. The successful candidate should have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following process plant technologies: Sulfur Recovery, Fired Heaters, Effluent Treatment, Steam Generation, Distillation, and/or Amine/Sour Water.
Oak Point is a part of Chevron Oronite, dedicated to bringing specialty chemicals and additives to customers. Processes include both batch and continuous units with varying hydrocarbon and chemical feedstocks and catalysts. The Oak Point plant is located less than 10 miles from the heart of New Orleans and is on the New Orleans West Bank along the Mississippi River. The site is easily accessible from both the bustling city and numerous neighborhoods in the parish’s surrounding quiet communities. New Orleans is the home of the Saints, Mardi Gras and world-renowned bars and restaurants, while also being a stone’s throw away from Gulf Coast beaches, fishing, hunting, and many other outdoor activities.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Provide process troubleshooting support, make technical recommendations, answer technical inquiries, improve Process Engineering tools, and develop process procedures.
Provide support to and carry out studies (PHA, DMR, LOPA, RBI, DMI, Relief Systems, etc.) to improve plant safety, reliability, and economics.
Help identify gaps between current performance and best-in-class and recommend opportunities for improvement.
Conduct test runs to optimize process variables and evaluate plant performance.
Provide technical recommendations and engineering support during planned unit turnarounds. This work may entail work at heights and confined space entry.
Works in collaboration with specialists and engineers of other disciplines.
Networks with subject matter experts in other facilities to leverage shared expertise.
Provides requested technical advice and recommendations to project teams within the required time frames.
Influence and improve work processes across the plant.
Individual schedule may require flexibility to respond to plant upsets during off hours.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
3 or more years experience in chemical manufacturing, refining, or a related field
Adherence and commitment to safe work practices
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering
5+ years experience in chemical manufacturing
Experience working closely with Operations and within a cross-functional Technical team
Experience directly supporting Sulfur Recovery, Fired Heaters, Effluent Treatment, Steam Generation, Distillation, and/or Amine/Sour Water
