At MPC, we’re committed to being a great place to work – one that welcomes new ideas, encourages diverse perspectives, develops our people, and fosters a collaborative team environment.
- Support unit operation through daily process monitoring – Communicate unit performance, optimization opportunities, and environmental performance. Assist troubleshooting efforts with unit upsets, product quality incidents, not meeting production plans, etc.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPI) included as part of routine reporting (WABT curve, fouling, chemical and catalyst budgets, yields, etc.)
- Manage catalyst performance and coordinate catalyst change timing.
- Review / approve vendor chemical programs.
- Work with the Lab to request more samples for troubleshooting.
- Provide after-hours support when appropriate – emergency call out.
- Daily interaction / communication with Board Operators. Understand regulatory control logic and any Advanced Multi-variable Process Control applications (APC)
- Alarm rationalization participation.
- Develop and support implementation of small to medium capital projects.
- Provide justification, develop project economics, and present to management.
- Develop justification and work scope for TAR and routine maintenance – specifically catalyst changeout, exchanger cleaning, furnace pigging, etc.
- Support / review operating procedures for start-up and shutdown.
- Inspect vessel internals for proper installation / tolerances of components.
- Monitor / approve catalyst loading and provide special chemical procedures.
- Participate in Process Technology Advisory Group calls/meetings. Work with Technologists to understand and implement unit best practices through unit health check-ups.
- Work with local and centralized Econ & Planning groups to set outside feedstock properties and evaluate opportunity feeds.
- Identify constraints, set appropriate unit targets, and drive implementation with Operations.
- Monitor accuracy of Linear Programming (LP) model yields and recommend changes.
- Critical Process Variables/ Not to Exceed (CPV/NTE) Maintenance and Operating Limits support.
- Lead/Participate in the MOC process.
- Perform environmental calculations (leaks, maximum intended inventory, etc.)
- Lead incident investigations for process related events.
- Participate in unit hazard reviews (What-Ifs, HAZOPs)
- Support instrumentation Process Safety Information (PSI) and troubleshooting (thermowell calculations, orifices, etc.)
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)
- Minimum of two years of experience in refining or petrochemical industry preferred.
- A driver's license is required.
- A Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) is required.
