SUPERVISION:
Performs lead worker duties as assigned. Responsible for training new planners. Is responsible for assigning and reviewing daily work, assisting with problems, and identifying areas requiring additional training and support for the planning division. Participates in the staff evaluation process, including establishing goals for planning staff.
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Acts as the team leader of the planners and performs a high level of professional planning activities pertaining to planning including land use, transportation, zoning, demographics, current planning, and other areas of planning impact.

Principal Planning
- Manages staff on a day to day basis to include prioritizing and assigning work, and review of assignments.
- Manages the activities of the Planning Section, which includes planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; participates in the development of strategic planning to accomplish goals; and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards.
- Completes current planning tasks as assigned.
- Acts as project lead for complex major development proposals.
- Determines workflow coordination of planners and support staff.
- Coordinates and oversees the development review process for development applications.
- Facilitates and/or represents the Planning Section, Department, or county at a variety of meetings, public events, training sessions, committees, and/or other related events, as assigned.
- Performs other duties of a similar or related level and directs or assists with special projects as necessary or assigned.
