We are seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our San Diego, Los Angeles, or Riverside, CA team! Come join us!
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide technical guidance on Geotechnical Engineering aspects of a wide range of projects in public and private sectors, ensuring conformance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Lead geotechnical design, investigation, and analysis for buildings and infrastructure projects, including residential/commercial buildings, bridges, highways, railways, airports, pipelines, and levees/basins.
  • Direct and supervise subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, geotechnical data interpretation, and geotechnical instrumentation monitoring programs to ensure a high-quality, timely, and within-budget delivery of the projects.
  • Supervise and lead geotechnical design and analysis for shallow and deep foundations, earthworks recommendations, slope stability and seepage analyses, lateral earth pressure calculations, and other pertinent analyses in support of a wide range of projects in public and private sectors, with an emphasis on large-scale transportation projects.
  • Supervise and lead geotechnical support during construction of geotechnical elements, including shallow foundation, drilled shaft, pile driving, grading, utility trenching, and other earthwork operations.
  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and governmental personnel, ensuring that all geotechnical concerns are addressed comprehensively.
  • Mentor and train junior Geotechnical Engineers and foster their professional development.
  • Provide support for business development activities by fostering and maintaining long-term client relationships and developing a client base for providing high-level Geotechnical Engineering services including identifying additional business development opportunities.
  • Play an active role in professional associations and contribute to the state-of-practice and research of Geotechnical Engineering through technical presentations and publications.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering; Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering practice with an emphasis on geotechnical design and analysis, geotechnical field investigation, and construction supervision.
  • The successful candidate should be a licensed Professional Engineer and Geotechnical Engineer in the state of California.
  • Local experience and familiarity with the local engineering practice required.

Technical Requirements:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working
  • Extensive geotechnical background including a strong fundamental knowledge of principles of Geotechnical Engineering, soil and rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, pavement engineering, and groundwater hydrology.
  • Experience in construction oversight for foundation construction and earthwork observation required.
  • Experience with geotechnical software including slope stability packages (Slide, Slope/W), pile modeling tools (L-Pile, Shaft, All Pile), Finite Element Modeling (Plaxis, Midas GTS NX), site response software (Shake, DeepSoil) preferred.
  • Familiarity with Caltrans and AASHTO standards, guidelines, and deliverables is required.
  • Experience in construction oversight for foundation construction and earthwork observation is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale transportation projects and manage teams of geologists and Geotechnical Engineers.

Other Miscellaneous Qualities:
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • Must be able to pass a background check for clearance to work on US Department of Defense military bases

Compensation:
$150K - $220K Annual Salary
The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state's law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
