Principal Engineer (Full-Time / Hybrid)

JOB SUMMARY

Our Southern California Engineering Division based in Orange, CA is currently hiring a Principal Engineer. The Principal Engineer is a management level position in the Engineering Department and is responsible for directing and supervising the professional engineering work. This role is also responsible for the management, development, and professional growth of the Department teams and individual staff. Duties will include managing and administering various Department activities, programs, and projects. The Principal Engineer has the ability to serve as a Public Works Director or City Engineer at a municipality in a staff augmentation capacity.

The Principal Engineer provides expertise in the areas of planning, coordination, and supervision of the design, program and project management, land development review, and construction management of Public Works’ projects which will require the following skills:

• Successful track record with local agencies, clients’ relations, project management, and business development.
• Lead selected projects within technical areas of expertise and broad experience in working with local public works agencies.
• Ability to work effectively with others to manage and deliver projects.
• Mentor staff and track staff professional development.
• Active in public works organizations or other industry groups.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise and participate in the preparation, review, or construction management of plans and specifications of public works projects.
• Direct the engineering staff to perform complex engineering work for Public Works’ projects and programs, ensuring technical competence and compliance with current codes.
• Manage the review and approve site improvement plans for conformance with local codes and regulations and design principles.
• Plans, organizes, and directs the administration and management of construction contracts.
• Review, evaluates and makes recommendations for and/or approves contracts, contract modifications, specifications, related documents, and the settlement of claims.
• Oversee Department projects’ delivery and budget management.
• Work closely with clients and group leads to ensure compliance with the agencies adopted policies.
• Serve as a Public Works Director or City Engineer at a municipality.
• Advise clients on applicable funding options and technical matters.
• Resolves differences among engineers to ensure effective functioning of engineering activities.
• Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 13+ years of progressive engineering experience.
• 5+ years of supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Current PE California License is required. Specialty certifications are highly desired.
• Proven success managing projects with strong client relations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with making presentations and leading team meetings.
• Strong interpersonal and team building skills.

The compensation for this position is $160,000 to $210,000annually.

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
