Description
Join a hard-working team in a fun, supportive community. The New Hope Police Station is less than four years old and was designed to be a comfortable, safe environment. You will perform intermediate administrative support work providing a variety of routine and complex clerical duties to support the operating policies and procedures of the police department, serving as the main point of contact for the general public, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the office supervisor. Desired hours are 7 a.m. -3 p.m. but a slight variation may be worked out.

Essential Functions
  • Types letters, reports, memorandums and other correspondence from drafts and digital recordings.
  • Answers phones, provides customer assistance and routes information to appropriate city personnel.
  • Provides accurate information to the public and department personnel by researching and retrieving data from files or computer programs.
  • Enters data into computer programs.
  • Complies with data privacy laws per Minnesota state statutes and city policies.
  • Monitors alarms and weather alerts.
  • Assists with booking of arrested subjects and prisoner searches as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • General knowledge of standard office practices and procedures.
  • General knowledge of spelling and punctuation used in written business communications.
  • General knowledge of standard office equipment such as personal computer, fax and copy machines.
  • General knowledge of standard software applications.
  • General knowledge of filing procedures.
  • General skill completing standard and irregular data entry.
  • Ability to type accurately using a large variety of formats.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with city personnel and the public.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, elected officials, consultants, other city staff, vendors and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and moderate experience working in an office environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • CJIS Basic Operator Course.
  • Ability to provide annual Mantoux test as required by governing agencies

  • Law enforcement experience
