Summit Medical Associates is seeking a part-time Phone Educator. This person will work four days a week, either 8-4 or 9-5. They will advocate for patients and work closely with physicians, nurses and other clinic staff, to provide abortion care in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. This person will work within a team environment at our Atlanta, GA location to offer patient-centered care through advocacy, education, and empathic listening. Job duties will include answering phone calls from patients, parents, and partners regarding the abortion procedure, contraception, aftercare, and state laws applicable to abortion.
The Phone Educator is most often the first person a potential patient speaks to about their abortion, thus they will provide guidance to callers by answering questions, setting appointments, providing financial counseling, and anticipating patient needs prior to arrival at the clinic. Patient Educators use active listening skills, “reading between the lines” when the caller speaks to affirm/assess the caller's needs, feelings about, abilities to cope with, and understanding of the abortion process. Phone Educators understand that patients may not know everything about this experience and so it is our responsibility to be forthcoming with information and guide them through this process with empathy and kindness.
Applicants must possess the physical ability to lift 30lbs. or more, stand, sit, twist, reach, and move freely through the clinic. Applicants are required to be passionately pro-choice and have a positive attitude. Preference will be given for previous healthcare experience, previous experience in reproductive health and/or bilingual in Spanish. Interested applicants should send a resume. Please no phone calls.
