Job Summary: The Caregiver/Direct Support Professional (DSP) is crucial in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with mental health or physical disabilities in our Supportive Apartment program. This non-exempt position reports to the Program Coordinator, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and supervisory guidelines. The DSP will actively contribute to the well-being of clients by fostering independence, promoting behavioral development, and assisting with various daily activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Advocacy and Well-being:Advocate for the mental and physical well-being of individuals served.Promote a supportive and inclusive environment within the Residential Assisted Living setting.
Daily Living Assistance:Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) while promoting independence in self-care. Provide guidance and instruction on independent living skills.
Behavioral Development:Encourage and support proper behavioral development among clients.
Community Advocacy:Advocate for affordable and accessible housing, employment opportunities, and adequate transportation for clients.
Benefit Assistance:Assist clients with completing benefit forms related to county, state, SSI, and rental assistance.Provide support in navigating and accessing available resources.
Transportation Support:Drive and accompany clients to appointments, including medical visits, obtaining identification, and Social Security office visits.
Peer Support and Socialization:Facilitate peer support activities to enhance socialization among clients.
Information and Referral Services:Offer information, resources, and referrals to clients, supporting the attainment of client-generated goals.
Work-Related Skills:Collaborate with clients on developing work-related skills and job preparedness.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience in direct support or caregiving roles.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to adhere to policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Commitment to promoting independence and dignity for individuals with disabilities.
Working Conditions:
This position is subject to flexible hours. This position may be cross-trained at the other sites and is expected to work with participants in their apartments or in the community.
This position will travel regularly into the community and work in a variety of settings both inside and outside the site and throughout the community. The Caregiver/DSP/ILS worker is subject to frequent interruptions, crisis management, and deadlines. This person is subject to problem-solving activities and has regular contact with individuals, family members, friends, federal, state or county regulatory personnel, other provider personnel, and the general public.
Hours: 35-40/weekly, Day Shift (8:30 am - 5 pm), Evening Shift (1 pm - 9 pm), Every other weekend, Weekends Day shift.

Job Requirements:
- Minimum High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle.
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the day.
