POSITION: Permit Technician II
PAY RATE: Range 710 ($4,853 - $6,352/month)
Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.
BARGAINING UNIT: AFSCME
WORK SCHEDULE: City Hall hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Applicant must be available to work 40 hours per week. The work schedule is flexible upon approval of the department head.
Schedules Range from:
4/10 - Monday - Thursday
4/10 - Tuesday - Friday
5/8 - Monday - Friday

THE POSITION
Permit Technician II is the journey level class of this series, fully competent to handle the technical areas of plan submittals, plan checking, building permit issuance and administrative duties for assigned programs. Positions at this level are distinguished from the I level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Employees at this level are expected to have full knowledge of the permitting process, including codes, regulations, policies and procedures relevant to the permitting process. In addition, incumbents have the opportunity to learn the basic concepts of building inspection and may perform basic inspection on a relief basis.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training and experience that provides the above listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way of qualifying would be:Permit Technician II
Equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of responsible office support experience. Some college or technical school coursework in planning, building, construction, engineering or a related field technical subjects is required.
Two years of work experience and knowledge of interpreting building codes; or experience in reviewing construction plans, and interpretation of General Plan and Zoning Ordinance is required.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, a Permit Technician Certificate from the International Code Council (ICC) or an accredited certifying organization.
Must possess a valid California driver's license.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

3. Establishment of Eligibility List: Candidates who successfully complete the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list pending further review by the department head and other qualifying procedures.
