St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Permit Technician I for our Building Department located within beautiful St. Johns County, Florida.

The St. Johns County Building Department permits and inspects construction activity in St. Johns County to protect the life, health and property of our community. The ideal Permit Technician I candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to:
· Assists the public on policies, requirements and procedures related to the Building Department’s function.
· Monitors the building permits application submission process, including communicating to interested parties the submittal process and reviewing packets for completeness and compliance with the established minimum standards for procedures, codes, ordinances and statutes
· Verifies contractor license and insurance requirements, including proper certification for appropriate discipline and compliance with local and state licensing requirements.
· Manages database of active construction projects, including monitoring permit applications submitted for review and revision; correspondence with contractors and owner-builders regarding application; and coordinating follow-up.
· Calculates and creates cashiering open tickets for various county fees. Processes payments through depository accounts in central cashiering computer program.
· Issues residential building, interior and exterior renovation, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and irrigation permits.
· Notarizes documents.
· Manages active permit files.
· Maintains full-time presence on the job.
· Performs other duties as assigned
Candidates for the Permit Technician I are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:
· High School Diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
· Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or specialized training in the field of work or having had a similar position for one year or have served as a Building Services Permit Technician Trainee.
· Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
· Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
· Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
· Must be able to operate a computer.
