Job Description
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for a Performance Testing Technician at our Chino, CA location.
Summary
This technician role is responsible for vehicle testing (equipment and sensor installation, performing driving tests, collecting data and processing data), vehicle maintenance and repair, vehicle updates and equipment maintenance and tracking.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Preparation of vehicles for testing, including installation of sensors (fuel flow meters, g sensors, speed sensor and thermocouples, high voltage sensing equipment) and data logging equipment (laptops, ETAS equipment, etc)
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and identify correct locations for wire taps.
- Testing of vehicles on public roads and private test tracks
- Post-processing of test data via PC based data analysis tools. Confirmation of data legitimacy before submission to engineering staff.
- Test vehicle maintenance and repair. Perform standard service interval maintenance. Clean and refuel vehicles. Diagnosis and repair malfunctions. Order and track parts and materials. Ensure proper vehicle settings (tire pressure, alignment, fluid level, etc.)
- Test vehicle updates. Remove and replace prototype parts. Update vehicle software.
- Order, track, maintain and calibrate test equipment. Support internal asset tracking audits
- Work with other internal teams as requested.
- Prepare weekly activity summary report to management
- Perform additional projects as assigned.
- Travel up to 35% of time, including multi-day trips and weekend travel

Compensation
- $50,000 - $65,000
Qualifications and Requirements
- Vehicle mechanical and electrical training plus related work experience.
- Experience with OBD or Manufacturer Scan Tools.
- Skill with computers and software, ability to navigate and learn new interfaces.
- Attention to detail and quality of work, ability to learn from errors.
- Flexibility to learn about vehicle instrumentation and testing.
- Ability to make independent decisions and solve problems without support (e.g. during remote testing).
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior

Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in Automotive Mechanics or Equivalent Education and Experience
- 2-5 years' experience in Automotive Mechanics, Research and Development experience is a plus
- Experience working in culturally diverse team environment

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Shop Environment - exposure to fuel, compressed air/gas, emissions and exhaust fumes; pinching, tripping, electrical, and chemical hazards; bending and stooping required; must be able to lift up 75 lbs. and work with hand power tools. May work in outdoors or indoors in extremes of weather and temperature. Safety glasses required.
- Laboratory Environment - exposure to fuel, compressed air/gas, emissions and exhaust fumes. May be exposed to hazardous conditions; must have clear understanding of safety; may have to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Road and Track Environment - exposure to typical dangers of vehicle travel, as well as sharing track environment with vehicles traveling at high speed, or driving vehicles at high speed or in difficult handling conditions. Driving vehicles equipped with hardware modifications.
- High Voltage - exposure to high voltage systems including batteries, inverters and motors
